Escape 6-cyl

  • 65,000 miles
I lost all acceleration in my Escape when I drove forward from a complete stop. I thought the engine had died, but it actually was surging. I was able to drive about 1 1/2 miles home at a speed of no more than 10 mph. The vehicle is at the Ford dealer, who advised that the throttle body needs to be replaced. The back order time for this part is up to a week, so I am forced to rent a car in the meantime. I hope this now massive problem (I have been investigating) leads to an immediate recall. My situation could have resulted in a serious or fatal accident, as I was crossing a major highway as the failure occurred.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 72,869 miles
Driving this morning at 30 miles per hour and I feel my 2010 Escape lose power no response when pushing the accelerator. Wrench engine light comes on and I put my car in neutral and press the accelerator but nothing happens. Engine never appeared to die it felt like it was still running just was not responding. I turned off the Escape and turned it back on with no problems. This has happened several times in the past but recently got a new battery which it had felt like it fixed the problem because the Escape no longer was sluggish when driving or changing gears with a jerk like it had in the past. Battery is only a month old and oil change was done at the same time. I have researched and there are currently 231 complaints that have been reported on power train failure and every story sounds just like mine. This is a huge safety risk since the car no longer responds while driving. Please consider recall.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 65,700 miles
Driving on the highway during rush hour and a wrench light on the dash came on. I had no gas power I could not give the car any gas and I had to coast through traffic to a stop. The car shut off and would not restart, I waited for a few minutes and was able to restart. The light was no longer illuminated on the dash and I was able to give the car gas again so I tried to continue my commute but it happened again within a few miles. This continued 3 more times before I had to call a tow truck to have the car towed to the shop.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 51,000 miles
Was driving along at about 30mph when the engine cut down to what I would later find out was "limp home mode". the wrench and engine lights went on and the vehicle became unresponsive to the accelerator. I had traffic behind me and was going up a hill which I was barely able to sputter to the top off before turning off the vehicle. I tried starting it again and it hard started but idled fine and ran fine for about 50 yards before the same thing happened again. Luckily, I was able to roll onto a neighborhood street and pull over. I eventually chanced a drive to the dealer and made it there without the vehicle failing. I was later told that it was a failure of the throttle body and the part was on backorder for 1-2 weeks. I saw that the 2005-2012 Escapes are being investigated by the NHTSA for this issue so I assume backorder wait is because the part has been failing with frequency. Although it did not cause an accident, the sudden change in responsiveness of the vehicle and the failure to accelerate could have easily lead to an accident and/or bodily injury. As it is, I am without my vehicle for 1-2 weeks.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 56,895 miles
While driving at highway speeds the engine revs up and losses power to the transmission as if it was out of gear. It also has happened and standing, I need to shut off the motor and reset it as to speak. The Ford dealer has said that it is a throttle body issue, but I am scared to drive it down the highway for fear that I may be rear ended. I have found that there is a current investigation under way for throttle body failures and there is a current national back order on them.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 45,000 miles
Vehicle stalled several times. Loses power with no acceleration when feeding gas. Wrench indicator light comes on, indicates throttle body issue. Vehicle needs to be restarted. Took to the shop after 3 incidences. Mechanics tell me the electronic throttle body has failed. Parts on national back order due to high frequency of incidences. Please issue a recall!

Escape 6-cyl

  • 51,500 miles
On 6/20/13, I was driving on the interstate when suddenly, truck started to decrease speed and yellow wrench symbol appeared on dashboard. I pulled over and cut off vehicle. When I started the vehicle up again, it made a sound as if it was going to kill, however, it cranked up and I proceeded to drive home, and wrench symbol didn't come on again. The next day, I went to work and vehicle operated fine that morning, until I left for lunch. The vehicle shut down while making a turn and battery light came on. Luckily the dealership wasn't far, each time I stopped at a red light it killed. Finally made it to the dealership, and was told the throttle body wire needed to be replaced. Ended up paying $533..

Escape

  • 56,000 miles
Driving normal hwy speeds, throttle shuts down. Wrench indicator lights. Have to try to get off of hwy on to shoulder. When stopped, engine still runs but very rough and the throttle does nothing. After turning the engine off the problem resets and runs fine for approx 20 miles or more. Then the same thing happens again. The problem then progressively gets worse. Have read that this is a huge issue and needs T be addressed before someone gets injured or killed.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 36,000 miles
My Ford Escape vehicle has suddenly lost all power multiple times in heavy traffic on 6 and 8 lane highways at various speeds. It loses all RPM's which has caused me to nearly get rear-ended on multiple occasions. No matter how many times I push on the gas pedal, it does nothing but coast & sputter & jerk. I have taken it to my mechanic several times, he has plugged it into the computer, and nothing shows up as being wrong. It is very dangerous, I have almost been rear-ended because of the sudden slowdown, people trying to speed around me, and trying to pull off the road to stop the car. Aaa has towed me multiple times. I read up on the issue on the internet, and there is a massive number of Ford Escape owners who have had the exact problem and Ford refuses to recall the vehicle. Someone will die if they don't notify all 2010 Ford Escape owners of this huge safety malfunction and fix it. Some said it is a faulty throttle bottle assembly, but that Ford simply replaces it with the same faulty assembly and tells them there's no guarantee as to how long the newer faulty one will last. Owners have spent a lot of money getting multiple things fixed before someone finally diagnosed and replaced the throttle body assembly. I don't know whether to get it replaced and risk losing power at night on a dangerous road again, or to simply sell it and take my losses. I am disappointed that Ford refuses to recall this vehicle. My grandchildren ride in the rear seat in baby seats, and if I get hit from the rear because this car loses power, I will sue Ford. That won't bring back my babies, so I hope you can get Ford to notify owners and recall this huge safety issue. Thank you so much for your help.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 32,000 miles
Car showed no previous sign of damage. The vehicle has had regular oil changes and a replaced battery in November 2012. At the time of the incident, I had 3/4 tank of quality exxonmobil gasoline. Drove 10 minutes to ramp without issue/light. Accelerating on ramp, the wrench and battery lights came on. This was rush hour traffic in downtown houston. It was extremely dangerous. Tried to restart car and managed to drive to shoulder. Vehicle was towed. Shop said that the throttle had to be replaced. The vehicle was still under warranty.

Escape

  • 42,500 miles
Driving approx 40mph when vehicle started stalling. RPM drops to approx 1000, gas pedal does not respond. Happened multiple times in the past, taken to dealership but "no codes were found to suggest a defect." Have to turn the car off and restart with it being in park before starts to run and wrench light turns off. Drove to the dealer after that last incident on 6/21, code 2111 was found to be pending which would have been lost if I turned the car off, found it to be the electronic throttle body. For a car that is 3 years old and 40K miles, it is dangerous to have this defect as if it happens on the highway you are stuck with a chance for a semi-truck to rear end you. Please allow this recall for the safety of others.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 59,800 miles
Was driving on the highway when car lurched forward and then proceeded to coast. I pressed gas pedal but nothing happened. I had to steer through traffic to get to the shoulder where the car started to stumble like it was going to die. I shut off engine and restarted, it started normal so I proceeded home. I had less than a mile to home yet it died 2 more times. This is a huge safety problem seeing how you're dead in the water when the car malfunctions! it takes a lot to scare me but seeing how I was responsible for the safety of my wife and 4 yr old son, it scared me half to death!

Escape 6-cyl

  • 33,000 miles
I came to a stop at the top of my street and accelerated out to make a turn onto the main road when the car just lost power and would not accelerate. I had to pull off the road and was lucky the car behind did not hit me. This has happened 2 more times including on an expressway where I had to pull off and get it towed.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 48,000 miles
Traveling along interstate highway at 60 mph in the center lane in rush hour traffic. Notice sudden drop in power and vehicle starts coasting! pressing accelerator accomplishes nothing. "monkey icon" icon appears on dashboard. Fortunately, no one was riding my bumper and I was able to move over into the right lane and coast to the next exit. Engine continued to run as normal, the transmission just stopped working.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 51,430 miles
Driving on interstate at 55-60mph when the car stopped accelerating. Hit the gas pedal but nothing happened, was able to safely coast to the side of the road and turn car off. Power, lights, & A/C were still working, but car would not accelerate. Wrench/check engine light came on. When starting the car back up it stalled for a minute and then came on. The issue recurred a minute later and this time the car started jerking before I was able to put it in park and turn it off. The check engine light went off after I started it the second time and I was able to get it to an auto shop without another incident. The auto shop still has my car and cannot figure out the issue.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 52,500 miles
Vehicle (2010 Ford Escape) traveling at appx. 20mph on freeway when it started bucking, lost some but not all power. Pulled vehicle to side of freeway, shut off engine. Restarted 30 seconds later. Restart was difficult but successful. Successfully drove vehicle to dealer for repair. Dealer claims this is electronic throttle body issue. Cannot repair until part arrives in approximately one week. Very similar behavior from car in two separate incidents last week - both happened immediately upon start up in my driveway. I shut engine off each time and restarted. Restart was difficult but not successful. Similar incident 9 months ago (Sept. 2012). Vehicle traveling at appx. 65mph on freeway when it noticeably jumped, immediately lost most but not all power. Towed to dealership. Dealer could not repeat nor verify concern in 4 days / 150 miles of testing. Research has shown that NHTSA is investigating similar issues on this and other model year Ford Escapes. My experience sounds very similar to complaints from other drivers.

Escape

  • 50,000 miles
As I was driving on a highway, the car began sputtering and then there was no acceleration. While the power remained on, the car drifted to a stop. After getting the car towed to the local dealership, I was told there was nothing wrong. A week later, the exact same thing happened again and I was then told the throttle body was defective. I was also told that this part was on a nationwide back order and my car was not be fixed until at least a week later. Today, my check engine light came on. Also, my sister owns a 2010 Ford Escape and had exactly the same problem about a week ago. Both cars had about 50,000 miles on them.

Escape

  • 52,000 miles
Driving on the highway 55-60 mph, the engine seemed to shake/jump and the the care lost all acceleration power. The "wrench" light came on, I coasted off the highway onto the shoulder, turned the car off and restarted. It ran fine for a few minutes and then did it again. It happened a total of 5 times getting it to the dealer about 12-15 miles away. Dealership has reported it is the throttle box and needs to be replaced. The part is on national backorder of 1 to 3 weeks!
