Escape Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,921 miles

When my Escape has been sitting for a while, I can not get it to start like normal. I have tried almost everything I can think of. I have used the remote to lock and unlock the vehicle. I have put it into neutral and tried. I have shifted it into all gears and back to park and nothing. I have shifted it into all gears and into neutral and nothing. I have hit the column underneath trying to jiggle something around and nothing.

Eventually, it starts and I am OK until the next time. And usually, if I have been driving and shut it off, it will start right up, but if it sits around for any length of time, I have to play with it until it finally starts. Very aggravating. I haven't been late for anything...yet, thank goodness.

ignition switch problem. won't turn on, need several attempt

When it first started I thiught it was the battery. I replaced the battery , but the problem persisted. All the electrical accessories work, but not the ignition. I have to reinsert the key several times and crank it to get it to start.

Ford Escape 2009 had the same problem andFord made a recall and fixed it. But Ford did not improve the ignition assembly for the 2010 Escape. They should undertake to replace the defective ignition assembly.

Very annoyed with unreliable car. I drove 200 km to visit my children & grandchildren on my 2 days off. I parked the car in shopping car park to quickly buy something for grandkids. Went back to the car won't start. Called the dealer service nearby, their mobile service couldn't come, booked for the next day, so towing people booked. My son disconnected the battery overnight. The next day, before the tow truck company arrive, he connected the battery & blessing the car started, so we drove it to the car dealer service, told them what had happened & left the car in their capable hands (so I believed). 4 hrs later I phoned them, they asked me whether the battery was new & I said yes it was replaced when it was last serviced which was end of September. The dealer service person said, "We couldn't find anything wrong nor faults with your car I you can pick it up in an hour." So my son & I went there to pick the car. The man there said, we checked every wiring, tested all the fuses cleaned & everything are in working order, we couldn't find faults. I will fix your bill mam if you could give me five minutes, so we waited. Driving away from the service car park my heart pumps a bit faster as I was thinking don't.die on me now. Anyhow, I drove it home starting ok no problems went to work. But everytime I put my key in I felt nervous, I put to the trauma & frustration I felt when the car didn't start. Happily went home last afternoon shift being a nurse, was looking forward to have days off & relax, didn't go anywhere. 8 days later from last dealer check up (as they say nothing was wrong) time to get back to work, I got to my car in the garage put the key in all lights & indicators turn on but not starting again. I told myself ok! Atleast I am home not somewhere else. Called the dealer service where we bought the car & was transferred to the service manager, there was backwards and forwards try that & try this to no avail. I took the battery off again overnight. Booked the tow truck in case won't start, but it start again. So I drove to the dealer service close to home..at time of this writing my car is still with them. They are convinced that the immobilizer box is faulty. The car is only 5 years old from manufactured & 4 years since we bought it & 2 years since driving the car to work. Therefore I told them to fix it as I don't like unreliable car being a nurse my shift changes & my work is 100kms vice versa with half of the road with no lights, don't want to get stuck somewhere isolated. So now is waiting game. I borrowed my daughter's car to go to work at the moment. I will keep posting the progress or how long it will take to have my car back and how much it will cost. FORD ESCAPE 2010 you make me nervous!

Escape 2.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 27,860 miles

The car will not attempt to start. Turn on the car, and the radio works, vent fans run, dashboard lights up, etc. All electrics look fine and battery is fully charged. Press on brake and clutch, car in neutral, turn key and nothing...not even a click. (The vent fan and radio goes silent as key is turned to "start" position, but this is normal.) If the car is placed in 2nd gear, key is turned on, and the car is rolled down a hill...it will start when clutch is let out. It will run fine until car is stopped and the key is shut off. Then same as above, car will not even try to make the starter go.
