Driving off exit ramp and Escape went into "limp mode". this "limp mode" has happened on the highway and side roads 6 to 8 times. This throttle box replacement is at my expense. Ford dealer will no cover, as I was told "the Escapes do not have a throttle body issue."

At 35 mph engine RPM decreased to idle and I had to stop and turn off engine and restart. This then again happened at a higher speed the engine RPM decreasing to idle. I was able to pull to the side of road to restart engine. On a busy road this could cause an accident.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 47,000 miles
Taking a turn off the main road when the car started shaking, lunging and had no throttle control, limited to about 10 mph. A dangerous situation on a curvy road, with no break down lane. The error code returned was P2112, the throttle body needed to be replaced. Nothing visually appeared wrong with the old part.

Escape 6-cyl

We were riding on interstate 40 traveling at about 75mph. My 18 year old son was driving. The vehicle suddenly lost power. We had to pull to the side of the interstate. Luckily there was not any traffic or transfer trucks directly behind us. Without warning, the vehicle lost power and the 'wrench light' came on. We immediately dropped down to about 40 mph. We sat beside of the interstate and called my husband to come to where we were. We did not attempt to crank the vehicle while waiting for him because we did not know what was wrong and feared causing further damage (I was not familiar with the throttle/powertrain light warning). When my husband got there, we cranked the vehicle and I drove us home without incident. I was afraid to allow my son to drive it because I feared the same thing would happen again. I hate to think what could have happened had there been another car or a transfer truck behind us. Due to the fact that we lost power without warning and so suddenly, I feel that if there had been a transfer truck directly behind us it would not have had time to stop or slow down and it would have hit us. Thankfully, we are scared, but fine this time. We are now afraid to drive my 2010 Ford Escape on any interstate or in any fast moving traffic.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 44,730 miles
Driving my 2010 Ford Escape on highway at 55 mph in heavy traffic when the engine stopped running. Was lucky to get off highway. Tried to start car for 10 minutes, finally started. Went a few miles and motor cut off again in heavy traffic and cost into shopping center. After another 10 minutes it started and was able to get it home. I was lucky that I was near home and not on a trip. Was able to get it to Ford dealer where I was told it was the throttle body assembly and not covered under factory warranty even though in the owner's guide the light for the "wrench" (which came on with the check engine light) indicates "throttle control/powertrain". my powertrain warranty is still in effect. I was told that "they" had seen this before and just got a shipment in with many "throttle bodies". the cost to me was $761.62 (parts $432.02). I talked to my mechanic and he said that he has seen this a number of times on 2010-2012 Escapes and sent everyone to Ford because he can't fix it. Not only is this an apparent recurring problem it is also a safety issue.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 50,000 miles
On the highway in the left lane - very busy area with traffic merging from right when engine stopped - no power at all. Terrifying! luckily, I was somehow able to get across three lanes of high speed traffic to the breakdown lane. Needed a tow to my Ford dealer (55 miles). They diagnosed a defective electronic throttle control and due to the fact this part was backordered, I did not have a car for over a week. Expensive fix.

While traveling at highway speed car lost all power. I was able to slow to a safe stop. Dealer tells me its the electronic body. I find out that another area dealer has replaced 96 of these this year alone. This sounds like a problem Ford needs to take care of. The kicker is that its not covered by my warranty.

Escape

  • 46,350 miles
Car stalls while driving at approx.40 miles per hour. The car doesn't sputter or anything it just quits. This has happened on multiple occasions, last time being today 8/7/2013. I have to get to the side of the road without getting rear ended, and then I can start it back up and will run fine for a while. This is extremely dangerous and scary.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 45,155 miles
Left work, and as started up a road, the car stalled and wrench light came on. Luckily no one was behind me as I would have been rear-ended I pulled over, restarted car, looked up light, proceeded. It stalled two more times before I got home (driving in the right hand lane so could get out of moving traffic quickly, the third time the engine light came on. Getting it to the dealer the car stalled again. I reported the problem to the dealer, who confirmed it was the throttle that needed replacing.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 51,125 miles
Vehicle was traveling on highway when the vehicle shook and started to stall and shut off at 55 mph. The vehicle slowed down and the engine light and wrench light illuminated. Vehicle was shuttering and slowing down with the engine cutting out. I immediately attempted to get off the road in order to not have a rear end accident with any speeding vehicles traveling behind the car. Once car was shut off, vehicle had a clicking noise when turning the car over to start, then restarted to a normal condition. At 45 mph on a city street, 3 days later the same stall and engine cut out occurred.

Escape 6-cyl

Driving down interstate 45 in houston, car was running, but no power from the gas pedal. Needed to coast to an exit where I stopped completely. I needed to power down the car completely then restart the car before the gas pedal worked again. This has happened twice. The other time was about a month earlier. Ford service department said it was a defective "throttle body". something like that shouldn't fail so early. I was just out of my warranty as well.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 48,000 miles
Driving down the highway, my car suddenly lost the ability to accelerate and I could no longer continue down the road. I pulled over and my car was running extremely rough. It almost felt like the car was bucking due to a novice driving a manual transmission - note that this was when I was parked as well as when I was decelerating. I noticed the orange wrench lit up on my dash and got a tow to the nearest dealership. The dealership called me and let me know it was a throttle body issue and it has been replaced. My car only had 48K on it and there is no way in my opinion that this should happen. I feel like I'm having money stolen from my wallet due to the fact Ford is fully aware of the problem but is not taking proactive steps to fix it.

  • 32,000 miles
Engine & powertrain bad hesitation at low speed all the time. Seems like electronic throttle body malfunction that generates engine & powertrain to surge and seems like engine will stall. This also creates hard impact in transmission & driveline system as all of the sudden acceleration happens and sudden torque in transmission & drive line generates high stress (impact) on these systems that affects & degrades durability & reliability of vehicle. Bad engine & powertrain hesitation is a safety concern due to degraded engine performance at intersections where engine power is required to take off from 0mph to 45mph and poor acceleration & hesitation is present.
