Car shuddered then died in middle of very dangerous, narrow, curvy road. Started up immediately but died when put in drive. Eventually got the car home after numerous stalls (a distance of approx. 3 miles) had to have car towed in. Told it was the throttle body and the $514 repair bill was not covered under any of the warranties. We had owned the car 30 days, and the extended warranty expired the day of the event. Apparently Ford is aware of the problem but refuses to recall or pay for repairs. My 17 year old son could very easily have been killed.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while traveling 40 mph the vehicle stalled. The contact stated the check engine light and wrench light illuminated on the instrument panel when the failure occurred. The contact had to pull to the side of the road and they were able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where the code indicated the starter actuator was stuck in the open position. The mechanic cleaned out the throttle body which helped the contact drive home before the failure occurred again. The failure and current mileage was 49,000.

Driving down the highway and the engine went "limp". the vehicle did not stall but did not have any power. Pulled off to the side of the road, observed the wrench light on the dashboard. After a minute I turned off and then restarted the vehicle without problem. Approximately 8-10 miles down the road the exact same issue arose. Pulled off to the side of the road and restarted once again. Additionally, the engine light came on an stayed on. Previously, over the past year I have experienced more subtle issues when trying to accelerate in which the vehicle sort of hiccups and then eventually begins to accelerate. Had the engine code read and determined the 2112 code identified a stuck throttle.

Vehicle appears to be stalling out at random times. When this happens, there is no power from the gas pedal and no RPM movement. An orange wrench light comes on when the failure occurs. Must pull over and turn engine completely off and restart to correct. The engine sputters for several seconds upon restart before turning back on. This process often has to repeated multiple times throughout the course of a single trip. Vehicle was taken to a local auto care shop on 8/1/13 and it was determined the throttle body assembly is malfunctioning. Was told by the service representative that there is a national back order on the part from Ford and it could take up to a month to get the part in. The quote for the repair was $420 (including the cost of labor). Upon further research of the issue over the internet it was determined that over 725,000 complaints have been filed over the same issue on the Ford Escapes, yet no recall has taken effect.

I was driving down a local street then I was approaching a train crossing, just before crossing the tracks, my car went limp and I could no longer accelerate. I was only traveling 5-10mph so when my car stopped, part of my car was over the train tracks. I could not move my car for about a minute while I parked my car and turned everything off, including opening the car door to shut the computer off. Then after resetting the car, it struggled to start up but started and drove as usual. Within the last two days, my car shut down during driving 5 times and when re-starting, it did not indicate that there was a problem. Finally the check engine icon turned on and I was able to take it to the dealership to check the code. It turned out that the throttle body needed replacing. My car is only 3 years old with average mileage. This could have been an terrible accident if there was a train and I was in a state of panic.

Wife was driving vehicle 6 miles from home, vehicle began stumbling and would hardly run. Made it out of 4 lane road to safety. Wrench symbol showed till engine was turned off. Shut off vehicle and restarted after approx. 5 minutes, continued 1 mile to destination. After vehicle set for 2 hours drove it 7 miles home and vehicle limped up driveway. Wife was afraid to drive vehicle until 7/28/2013 when we tried it again. I can not drive vehicle since having a stroke but was with her. We drove vehicle to ymca and it went to limping after 9 miles, shut off and let set for 5-6 minutes. Vehicle ran ok for an additional 5 miles to Y. started home after 1 hour at Y. vehicle ran approx 5 miles in 45 and 30 mph speed limit area. It started limping approx. 500 feet from stop light. It went in limp mode 4 more times in the last 9 miles to get home. Luckily the traffic was not real heavy late in afternoon and we made it home without any accidents; only a very stressful ride home. Vehicle now showed engine symbol. We read the fault code and it was P2111 or faulty throttle body. This is a very expensive repair which dealer said was out of warranty at 36K. Miles.

Around 5pm driving home on a main street during rush hour, I was driving about 35-40mph and suddenly my vehicle, an automatic transmission 2010 Ford Escape XLT, stopped accelerating and began to tug. Also, the throttle control/power train light turned on. I turned on the emergency hazard lights and attempted to deviated to a parking lot where I turned off my vehicle. I waited a few minutes to turn it back on, and the vehicle turned on as usual. The throttle control light was no longer on. I proceeded to drive home, but it wasn't 5 miles into the trip when the vehicle malfunctioned again. A few days passed and my vehicle was working okay, however I started to notice a sluggish feel to it, as well as that it was having trouble shifting gears. Today, driving home again, I was driving on the interstate about 50mph, and the vehicle unexpectedly malfunctioned. I nearly got rear ended. Now both the throttle control and engine check lights turned on. I turned off my vehicle, and this time the engine check remains on. I called the Ford dealership where I purchased my vehicle and was told to make an appointment.

While driving in light traffic on the interstate freeway, just coming over a hill, the engine lost power. Multiple power loss surges and the engine light came on so the Ford Escape was allow to coast down hill to the next exit ramp. Once at the bottom of the off ramp, the ignition was turned off and a tow truck was called. To move the car out of the way, the engine was restarted and it was noticed that another light was also turned on indicating something mechanical (transmission) had also failed. The car was barely able to move in 1st gear to clear the side of the road till the tow truck arrived. Later the mechanic read the trouble codes and said the throttle body failed and the transmission torque converter was seriously damaged. Fortunately the traffic was not heavy and there was opportunity to exit the freeway without crashing.

While driving down the interstate, the car started to de-accelerate. The accelerator did not respond and I went into limp mode. Car was towed to repair shop. It started right up and no problem was found - didn't register on the computer and wrench warning light went off. Ten days later, the car did the same thing, this time in the city. Different repair shop diagnosed the problem as the throttle body. Ford dealers in the area told me there were 3700 of these parts on back order! gee, maybe there is a problem with massive numbers needing to be replaced! a recall needs to be initiated. My incident on the interstate almost resulted in an accident.

My husband was driving out of a parking lot when all of a sudden the orange wrench light came on. The car started to decrease in acceleration even though his foot was on the gas pedal. He then applied pressure to the brakes to pull over to the side and the car pulsed to a stop. He put the car in park and shut it off. When trying to restart the car would not turn over right away, and took at least 5 seconds or more for it to start. Since this issue has occurred, it has happened 7 more times in a matter of 5 days. Luckily this happened while my husband was driving my car and he continues to drive it until we get it fixed. I primarily drive this car 99% of the time and I am 7 months pregnant. I can't even imagine what I would do if this happened to me on the highway or in the middle of a busy intersection. We are very lucky that no one got hurt during these instances. I can't believe Ford has not done a major recall on this issue. My sister in-law had the same issues with her 2009 Escape and just recently had her throttle body replaced as well. The lack of caring about its customers will definitely make me rethink about ever buying a Ford again.

Driving along 5-lane interstate at approximately 70-75 mph when my 2010 Ford Escape's engine essentially cut out on me. A yellow wrench light came on as well. I avoided several passing cars and semis on this very busy thoroughfare outside our nation's capital and luckily found safety on the right shoulder. After powering down the vehicle, thinking that it may be a computer error, I restarted and everything seemed find. Again, no more than a couple miles down the road the same issue happened. Found a Ford dealer eventually and replaced the throttle body. $600 out of pocket cost for something that should be under powertrain warranty.

While driving the engine lost power. The engine continued to run but would not add any rpms when applying the accelerator. The engine light also came on. I was able to keep the vehicle moving at an idle to get out of traffic. Top speed was only about 5 mph. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership. Service department was unable to find anything wrong with my vehicle. About one month later the same problem occurred while driving on roadway approximately 50 mph. Same symptoms with same results. Service department did replace the throttle housing this time.

Driving and gas pedal lost all power. Pulled to side of road, engine continued to run about 700/800 RPM. I noticed the wrench symbol was lit in dashboard so I turned off A/C opened all windows & shut off engine. After about 30 seconds or so, I re-started the car & drove back home (approx. 35 miles). The following day I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer & explained my problem. Dealer said this was probably a throttle control / powertrain problem. They offered me some suggestions to help with this trouble, which I have done. As of today 7/25/2013 vehicle seems to be running fine. I hope this gets resolved because I really like this vehicle.

Vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly lost all power while driving on a major thoroughfare, almost resulting in a rear end collision. Vehicle has now done that three times and is not being driven as it is unsafe to operate until repaired. Ford states that it is a known issue with the throttle body but cannot obtain the replacement part for one to two months, rendering vehicle unusable and unsafe.

While at stop light when attempting to take off nothing happened as gas pressed. Vehicle stalled restart and drove fine. Made service appointment had to wait 6 days. Meantime the RPM fluctuated at idle and acted as if wanted to stall. I was afraid to drive the car. Went in for service told it was the mass air flow valve sensor. We cleaned, car ran fine for a week then we stalled while driving 65 mph on I-75. Replaced the maf sensor but no change to the rmps. Took car back to dealer they stated it could be ABS related kept the car overnight to call and tell me they could not find a trouble but they suspect it was the electronic throttle control but could not back that in writing. I drove the car home (less than 10 miles) ran in house get something and the car stalled in driveway. Restarted stalled three more times. How can I be told there is no problem and three mechanics drove it on three different drives and I get in the car and it occurs immediately. I feel lied to and don't think I will ever be comfortable driving a Ford car. This was my first and it will be my last. Ford does not stand behind their product and their customer care in poor. It has been 11 days and the car is unreliable and I don't feel I can trust the Ford dealership.

I was driving on the freeway at 65 in the slow lane when suddenly the vehicle seemed to loose power. The engine was still running but the accelerator would not work. No gas seemed to be going to the engine but it was still running. The good thing was I was in the slow lane otherwise I would have been in serious trouble. I shut the engine off and waited a few moments before restarting. It started up and I was able to drive home. Researching the problem on the internet led me to this site but it would appear that this is a common problem which Ford needs to take of before someone is killed.

I drive a 2010 Ford Escape and it will lose power while driving. Once power drops out, the vehicle may only be driven at about 20 miles per hour or less and sounds/drives rough. I pull over, shut vehicle off, wait a minute or so and re-start and it will run fine. Then at some later point will randomly quit again. A little wrench shows up on the corner of the screen but goes away and resets itself when the vehicle is re-started so no information there to assist with this issue when connected to a computer.

On July 14 2013, my vehicle 2010 Ford Escape XLT stalled in the middle of the highway. The vehicle was traveling at 60 mph when the incident occurred. After the stall, the vehicle did not respond to gas pedal. It slowed down. I was able to pull the vehicle to safety lane. During the incident, the wrench sign appeared on the dashboard indicator. After the vehicle came to complete stop, I was able to restart the vehicle. I drove the vehicle to the dealership service center at reduced speed of 25 mph. They diagnosed that the issue is with the throttle body and mentioned that the whole throttle body needs to be replaced.

My 2010 Ford Escape has an intermittent issue where the accelerator stops working, the engine wrench alert comes on, the engine is still running. When this occurs the vehicle has basically stalled, in that you can't accelerate only slow down or coast. After the problem occurs you must turn the vehicle off and wait a few minutes, then it will usually start up and the accelerator will function again. This problem has happened probably a dozen times since it started, we usually just pull over and turn vehicle off/on, yesterday the problem nearly caused an accident though as my son was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic and the vehicle stalled.
