Vehicle would stutter and then stall on multiple occasions. Happened once on the first day, twice on the second, and 5 times (including 3 on the way to the dealership) on the third day. This is extremely unsafe, as you are never sure when it is going to happen. I was told that I have a "bad throttle body."

I was driving from san diego to orange county on interstate 5, which is always a very busy highway around 50 mph when the car did a slight hesitation and then a quick surge and then lost power. It did not die but was only moving at 4 mph and the gas pedal did not have any power, no response at all. I was in lane 4 of a 5 lane highway and finally was able to get to the left and pull off in the center of the interstate. I turned off the ignition and set there for a few minutes trying to gain my composure. The car started right up and seemed to be okay. I took the car to the Ford dealer the next morning and they said it was a throttle body problem but would take 8 days to get the part and it is not covered by the warranty. The throttle body unit usually does not have to be replaced until 100,000 miles. I have 34,000 miles and maintain my car as recommended by the Ford Motor Company at my Ford dealership. I believe the unit must be defective and should be recalled before someone is seriously injured or killed. It was extremely scary not knowing if at any minute another vehicle would run into the back of my car going 4 mph on a busy interstate!

On July 4, 2013 I was driving my 2010 Ford Escape on I-235 South in Oklahoma city at approximately 70 mph when the forward momentum of the vehicle dropped out and it began to decelerate. I attempted to continue forward momentum by applying pressure to the accelerator but with no response from the vehicle. I coasted the vehicle across lanes of traffic to the shoulder of the highway. Once stopped I placed the vehicle in park and the engine was sputtering and losing rpms. I identified the power train (wrench light) on control console was lite at which I observed the vehicle. I applied pressure to the accelerator to increase rpms at which no success was noted at that point I cut the power to the vehicle. I allowed the vehicle to sit for 5 minutes and then restarted the engine with some sputtering. At that point I applied pressure to the accelerator and immediately the rpms increased and the vehicle returned to operating normally. Similar action repeated on Aug. 13, 2013 X 4 times on the same highway: Once during morning traffic traveling at approximately 60 mph and then three times during evening rush hour traffic traveling 20-40 mph. Problem was identified as malfunctioning throttle body by Ford dealership mechanic. Failure acted during high traffic situations which could lead to a potential accident or injury to operator and surrounding motorists. Upon further research it has come to my attention that there are multiple failures of throttle bodies in 2010 Ford Escapes which had to be replaced at the owner's cost and Ford has not issued a recall for this defective component.

After being at a stoplight, I was accelerating around a corner about 25 mph and the car suddenly lost power and would no longer accelerate. The engine light came on. I had to coast to the side of the road and put my hazards on. I was quickly able to restart the car and drive home, although the same thing happened twice the very next day while accelerating after being at a stoplight.

Was driving at 60 mph in the fast lane on the freeway, engine lost power for no reason. Had no shoulder to pull onto, had to shut ignition off in the middle of the road with fast approaching cars passing me and coming up behind me. Restarted car and it started running fine again. Had this one time before this but not in the middle of rush hour traffic. After someone is hurt then they will have a recall for this faulty throttle body!

On my way to work, the car started to pull then car just turned off. Did it again a week later and the engine light turned on. Took it to a gas station paid for a diagnose and a code 2111 throttle actuator control system came up. Called dealer and they do not want to change it and be responsible for it cause the warranty just expired at 30 thousand miles.

The first time it happened I thought it was "bad gas". I was driving on the highway in the fast lane and the just lost power and the wrench icon came on the dashboard. I crossed 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder without the ability to speed up and a strange resistance in the pedal as I was braking. Turned the car off and back on again and it started up fine except that the starter seemed to get stuck, as if I was still turning the key. This rapidly increased in frequency of occurrences. From twice in 6 months to everyday last weekend. Another time the truck started accelerating as I drove on the highway. I was already going the speed limit so it was really scary. I hit the brake as hard as I could and applied the emergency brake and you could smell burnt rubber. I got over to the shoulder and let my children out of the car because I was scared I could not get the car to stop. I turned the car off while the engine continued to push like it was going 100mph but no lights came on the dash or anything. When I started the car back up it was running normal. When I took it to the dealer today they advised that it is the throttle body and even with less that 32,000 miles on the car it is not covered by warranty so they want $650 to fix it.

Though mileage warranty has not expired, 3 yr warranty is out by 1 month so they will not repair under warranty. Want $700 to fix.

Driving on major highway at 60 mph the engine shut off and we coasted to the grassy part of the shoulder. Shut car off, waited 5 mins. Restarted the car. Than it happened several times after that. Took it to dealer and had the throttle body replaced. Thank god were able to pull of on the shoulder each time. Looking on the internet, this has happened many times to several other owners.

On 6/18/2013 I was driving around 45 mph and my Escape's engine/power train completely turned off and I coasted onto the shoulder. I waited a few minutes and it started again. I took it to a garage we use and they could not find the problem. A few days later the engine shut down again when I was driving around 60 mph. I coasted to the shoulder of the highway, waited a few minutes and started it again. On 8/2/2013 the engine shut down once again. This time the engine light came on. I paid over $600 to have the throttle body replaced at this time.

Driving around 60mph and car started to shake as I tried to accelerated to pull over I could not get the car to accelerate. I coasted to the side of the rode and put on my hazzard lights. I turned the car off for a few minutes and placed a call to my son to come get me. I started it again and tried to go and it started to accelerate again and then called hub city Ford where I purchased the car. They said they had several people call with the problem but there was no recall as of yet and it runs around $765 to repair. I asked about warranty and they said this particular part was 3 year or 30,000 miles. I exceeded the mileage.

As I am driving the vehicle I loose all power and acceleration without warning of any kind. Diagnostic code reads a P 2111 (throttle control system stuck open) this has happened several times and I have been in heavy traffic what it has. Luck I wasn't killed by a semi. As I said it looses power and acceleration and stalls out I have looked around online and there are several complaints out there but no recall for it. Why is this? if there are so many of these vehicles having identical problems that the part to that needs to be replaced is on back order nation wide then there is a manufacturing defect not a part failure do to use. What is up with this.

While driving on the interstate at highway speed the vehicle suddenly lost all power. The engine warning lights came on and it had no accelerator response. Managed to pull over onto shoulder, turned off the engine waited a moment and it restarted and ran normally. While I was fortunate enough to pull over safely, this could be a very dangerous situation when you have no control of the vehicle. At first it happened just once or twice making me think. It was just bad gasoline or a fuel filter. Over the months since it has gotten worse and I learned of the throttle body defect.

I kept the old throttle body for evidence. There should be some type of regulation on this item. Because I almost got killed by this defect. Ford manager contacted me, her name is [xxx]. she told me to keep my receipt because they were having problems with the throttle body's vendor. The car stalls out and loses power without warning during operation. Speed at the time is irrelevant. People will die because of this defective throttle body. Its inevitable. Don't wait for a family of 4 to stall out on a 4 lane highway going 65 mph causing an 8 car pile up involving a tractor trailer and catastrophic injuries/fatalities. Recall the cars. Save lives.
