Advance auto does engine light diagnosis and informs me to replace my gas cap. (P0456 Code). I have no cap its flex fuel. Inspection just ran out and I took it to tires plus which charged me 100 dollars for digagnostics test and smoke test. Tires plus wants 300 hundred dollars to drop rear drive shaft and gas tank to see where exactly the leak is coming from. I went and picked the vehicle up and have it now. Tires plus reports in there report that I should replace the fuel tank. F*ck that bullshit. Its gonna cost more to find problem and replace problem.
I will never buy a ford in my life again.
I will never take a vehicle to tires plus again.
Like what the f*ck. cant fix a problem you don't know about and I m not spending a grand I don't have to fix the problem, so how the f*ck I get car inspected. Lick em stick em?????

Bought my 2010 Escape brand new. It has around 43,000 miles on it now. Engine light came on over a year ago. Took it to Advance Auto to run a diagnostic test. They said I needed a new gas cap but I told them this car doesn't have one. I took it to a Ford dealer and they ran a diagnostic test. They said it was a pollution leak but couldn't find it. They said must be so small of a leak that only a smoke test will find it. They wanted the car for a whole day and I said I needed the car. They said it was no big deal as far as engine performance or anything and they would reset the computer. The light went out but one day I hit a bump in the road and it came back on again. After a month, it went off again and stayed off for about 2 months then came back on again.
This last time, the light didn't go off and has been on for about 4 months. I have no clue where the problem is or how to fix it. As a dedicated Ford customer, I wish when Ford has a better idea that they first try it out. Any help???
Update from Jul 7, 2015: After many months of this engine light going on and off, I took it back to the Ford garage. They ran a check again only this time they found where the Vapor Management Valve was not working all the time. They replaced it and so far the light hasn't come on. The part cost $60 and the labor was $140 (total $200). Actually, I do not mind the cost as long as it fixed the problem. The Ford people were very nice in trying to help me this time.

I purchased this vehicle used on Jan. 1, 2014. Shortly afterward, the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealership I purchased it from. They told me this was the problem, (the capless gas tank neck, replaced at a cost of $311.00) and is not covered under the warranty, even though I have the best warranty Ford provides. I did a little research online to find out this is a problem with Ford vehicles. The reason they have not made a recall, is that it does not threaten human life. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a gas leak a serious problem in autos?

engine light on, capless gas entry giving vapor fumes
I just bought this 2010 Ford Escape. I had an incident years ago of someone putting sugar in my tank. I made a point of looking at the gas tank entry, seeing there wasn't any cap. I told the salesman I disagree with Ford's manufacturing change, thinking a cap isn't needed. I had the Escape two days when the check engine light came on. I immediately went back to the dealership. They looked at it, NOT getting the code off it, but told me it read a vapor leak. I commented, so my gas is letting off fumes. He tried to tell me no, it wasn't that. I requested a lock gas cap, not believing this. I did get one. I dislike this change of NO cap.
