My power steering assist light is on and I can not steer my vehicle. I got in to take my kids out and I could not steer. Its too unsafe to drive, and I read this is a known issue with Ford under steering issue complaints. If my vehicle is covered to be repaired under a recall I would like to know the next step. Its around $1000 to fix and I can not afford this.

Driving on the interstate while driving 65mph and lost power steering, (traction control led came on) and right turn signal quit working all together - had to hold it to pull off the side of the road. I have already fixed this issue before, 4 years ago, for $2000. They quoted me $2400 again, even though there seems to be a recall for this issue with Ford Escapes (14S05), just not for my VIN.

While driving uphill on the entrance to my college campus the steering wheel froze and I lost ability to steer the vehicle. It was very difficult to turn the wheel to get it into a parking spot. Thankfully I wasn't on the garden state pkwy when this happened. I needed to have it towed because it was undriveable to my repair shop from my school campus in montclair, NJ to monroe twp, NJ. My mechanic did a diagnostic and advised there was a recall (NHTSA campaign 14V28400) and Ford's recall number 14S05. After contacting the dealer about the recall I was advised there was no open recall. My local repair shop advised to have the vehicle towed to the dealership for diagnostic. They too advised no recall and advised repairs will cost $2700. Why would a recall come up on vehiclehistory.com and specifically state 2011 Ford Escape and this not be eligible for my vehiicle.

I stopped before entering a traffic circle. When starting and turning right to enter the traffic circle, my power steering seized up. It didn't just go dead -- it started vibrating and I could feel the motor actively resisting any steering movement. There was no audible warning and no warning lights illuminated on my dashboard. All electronics seemed to operate normally. When I turned my ignition off and on again, steering returned to normal. This is a life-threatening safety issue. I have not received any recall notices related to steering.

The power steering has failed multiple times. It seems to happen whenever I take a heavy U-turn. The power steering goes out and ai have no control over my steering. According to dealerships the power steering is computerized, so is quite costly to fix. But this is a major safety hazard when driving. This has happened on city streets only when making U-turns.

While making a right hand turn at an intersection pulling out from a stop sign. I was turning from a city street onto a highway. The power steering stopped working making the vehicle hard to steer and almost hitting a stone barrier between the lanes. The vehicle was then parked and turned off, and later started and the power steering had returned. This was the second time the power steering was lost. The first time was on a city street while pulling out from a parking spot and vehicle was then parked. A short time later the vehicle was started and the power steering had returned. This has now happened a third time while backing out of a parking spot the power steering stopped working, the vehicle was parked and shut off. It was then later started and the power steering had returned. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who hooked the vehicle to a code scanner and found the code for the power steering torque sensor had malfunctioned.

While driving the vehicle, the power steering failed. I continued to my destination using manual steering and parked the vehicle. I completed my errand and when I started the vehicle the power steering was working. The following day, I drove the vehicle to the Ford dealership where my wife bought it to have it checked out by the service department and was told that the problem was with the steering torque sensor and that it should be replaced. Rather than repair the vehicle, we traded it in for a new Ford Escape.

My power steering assist is lost on my 2011 Ford Escape. 915,000 other Ford have had this issue and Ford has allowed this recall. My VIN# does not match with the cars that Ford allows recalled. Ford tells me that my car was mfg. In June 2011 so this power steering assist will not happen. And yet I had my car towed because my power steering assist was not working. I am afraid of driving my car as this issue creates a dangerous driving situation.

While driving, my power steering went out to where I could not turn the steering wheel to turn a corner which almost lead to me and my husband getting hit by a semi truck. The car had been running and turning just fine up to stopping at the stop sign. Once I went to turn right, I couldn't turn the steering wheel and went straight through the intersection instead which is when I was almost hit by a semi truck that was headed in the other direction because I couldn't turn right, my car went straight the the intersection. Had to turn the car off sit for a few minutes, turn it back on and then it worked. Took it to the auto repair shop 3 days later and it happened again to them. The power steering just stops working while the car is already driving down the road which is not safe at all. Thankfully I was not in the highway yet. There is a current recall for this power steering torque issue and it is recommended that the whole power steering control module be replaced. Was told by Ford that this is VIN specific. However, my 2011 was manufactured in Kansas City and came off the manufacturing line on 9/27/2010. Recall states that this affected 2011 Ford Escapes from the Kansas City plant through 9/16/2010. Ford would not tell me when the steering column portion of my car was actually constructed before coming off the line on 9/27/2010 and could not verify parts that were used in the steering column module yet the issue this car is having matches exactly what that recall was for. I do think this recall needs to be further evaluated as it has obviously effected more vehicles than Ford is willing to admit or look into especially since my car's manufacturing date was only 16 days after the recall date from the same manufacturing plant of Kansas City.
