Rear hatch only seems to work if the weather is cool... early morning or in the evening. During the day if it's warm or hot it does not work. The window hatch works all the time. Not sure if this is an electrical or mechanical issue but because the nature of when it works I believe it might be electrical. Maybe I'll try an experiment with freon or some way of cooling the switch and see if that can be a temporary workaround

The rear door will not unlock intermittently. Of course, it only does this it seems after I have it loaded full of things, and then I am forced to open the rear glass and try to access items in the rear storage area.
I have seen MANY similar complaints and all ended with needing the rear door lock actuator replaced.
I was quoted $380 to have this replaced by a dealer (and another $200 to replace the window seal and door seal to prevent it from happening again. There are at least 12 You-tube videos showing step by step how to do this and I can find an aftermarket part for $200.
Again, there are multiple issues with the 2012 Ford Escape that have to do with improper water in and around the rear window glass, everything from the glass holders disintegrating and the rear glass falling out while driving down the highway, to the rear wiper seizing up due to rust/water damage to the motor and now this issue with the lock actuator getting corroded due to water getting in through the window seal in the rear liftgate.
Sigh, another Ford issue many people have reported but they refuse to acknowledge.
