I was getting gas and the fuel filler neck broke off when I removed the gas nozzle. The part is all plastic and was held on by a very small (1/16" or less) ring of glue around the neck. The plastic did not break, it was the glue that did not hold the parts together. With that part broken the gas cap lock does not work. The dealer said that the entire fuel neck assembly must be replaced. The repair requires the wheel to be removed and the gas tank shifted. The good news is that the repair is under warranty. The bad news is that the Service Advisor has seen this problem before and it may take a half a day to repair.

This appears to be a design flaw to me, because the area where the 2 parts mate is only 1/16" to 1/8" deep and just the normal weight of the gas nozzle will put a strain on this part every time gas is added to the car. I am not hard on the car when fueling it and I hope the replacement part lasts more than the 1,000 miles of the original part.
