Escape Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission

While driving on smooth, paved, straight roads in sunny weather the Front Passenger Seat Belt will randomly and sometimes painfully "lock" the passenger in the seat. The only way immediate way to remedy the situation is for the passenger to unbuckle and re-buckle the seatbelt. It is UNACCEPTABLE to have seatbelt issues in a vehicle EVER, especially an 8-year-old vehicle with 88K miles. I have seen reports of this happening to other 2012 Escape drivers and even lower milages such as 5K. SERIOUSLY??? How in the world Ford keeps getting away with not issuing recalls for these major things is beyond me. No one in my vehicle has been injured yet, but it is very concerning to have seat belt problems. As of now, my front passenger seat is off-limits to all passengers until I can verify there is no safety risk.

I was quoted $580 to fix this. I am going to drive to another city and check with a Ford Dealer. I am NOT impressed with the dealers in my area and the LAST thing I want to do is to give them more business, BUT this is potentially a major safety issue. I want to know that someone in the business would be liable should any repair fail and someone were to be hurt in an accident. Ford should at least be competent to fix their own seat belts.
