Liftgate Glass fell down when the latches broke. The bolt on both latches were totally broken off. I was parked when I noticed it had fallen down, I had straps to hold it in so I could drive the car back home. This would have been an awful accident if the glass had fallen off while driving in traffic. This just happened so I don't know how this problem will be taken care of.

FORD - this should definitely be a recall.

The lift gate latch broke almost a year ago, so I replaced it with an aftermarket part since my warranty was up a while before. Car was JUST paid off and I had just paid rent. The aftermarket part (and Youtube videos explaining how to install it) were reasonable, and it was really easy to do. Not even a year later, and I have the "lift gate/glass ajar" warning light coming on in the dash lights. The door is definitely closed, the glass is definitely closed. The key fob is still able to lock/unlock all doors, but while I'm driving the warning light chimes incessantly and tries to lock all the doors the entire time I'm driving. VERY ANNOYING!!!

I have the internal dimmer switch for the lights turned off so my battery doesn't drain, but my mechanic is saying it's going to be $650.00 to fix since he prefers using ford parts for ford cars, etc. He's a great mechanic, but he's kind of tied too. Ford strongly suggests replacing both the lift gate mechanism and the glass mechanism at the same time, and I totally understand that (now, in hindsight) but holy cow this is terribly inconvenient. I'm beginning to understand why mechanics everywhere recommend Toyota/Honda....
