Having properly working brake lights is a safety issue:

Ford says the LED high mount brake light is designed to last the life of the vehicle. Followed my spouse down the road, she was driving ahead of me. When she braked I saw the high mount light had failed. No cheap $4 bulb in that unit! Had to replace the entire plastic housing with its LED light strip. $$ Hope this one lasts!

Then I thought the new unit wasn't working when I tested it in the driveway, but discovered you have to have the engine running to get that one to light up. Well the spouse definitely had the engine running when she was driving down the road and the first unit had failed. Luckily the replacement did work properly.
