The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. While driving at unknown speeds, the accelerator pedal was applied, but the vehicle failed to respond and then spontaneously accelerated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The "hill climb assistance not available" and "four wheel drive not available" messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the tone ring needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 57,000.
