rear windshield exploded

I was driving down the road and the rear window made a popping sound as a baseball sized piece of glass fell out. Then it started making a crackling sound as it started shattering and slowly falling out. I was on the interstate where nobody could've thrown anything at the window. It was really cold out, but I didn't have the rear defroster on and the heater and JUST barely kicked on. Super weird.

Escape LS 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 18,020 miles

I was back from a week vacation at my lodge, while driving at 70 km per hour on a gravel road, the back window suddenly broke in thousand pieces as if it had been hit with a baseball stick.

I am awaiting Ford answer on warranty....
