Issue showed when starting the car after very short stop for water.very difficult to steer. Was able to reset by turning off the ignition and restarting. The electric power steering assist failed and the power steering fault message appeared when backing out of my garage. After turning the ignition off and starting the car again, the problem resolved. My Ford dealer found code U3000:49 stored. Required replacement of the entire steering gear at a cost of $2559.47, including alignment. I feel fortunate that this happened in my driveway. If it had been on the highway it could have caused a serious accident. The service advisor said that this was the first Escape he has seen with this problem, but I have found numerous accounts of similar problems on the internet.

I started to drive my 2014 Ford Escape and the vehicle had no power steering. I noticed the steering assist fault light was on. I was able to drive from the gas station to my house, which was only a few blocks. It was very hard to turn the steering wheel. I had to have it towed to the Ford dealership. The Ford service advisor told me that the rack & pinion is internally damaged and needs to be replaced. He also stated the rack & pinion is a seal component, so that is why the entire thing has to be replaced. This is a safety concern, if I was driving at a higher speed during the failure, it could have caused a accident with no power steering. My Ford Escape is 2014, 42,000 miles.

An internet search was conducted and this appears to be a common problem with this vehicle which could render it unsteerable while driving. While driving, my vehicle suddenly shows a low coolant than engine overheat message. It immediately begins to shut down, speed rapidly decreases and power steering is lost. I must stop the car, place it in park, shut it off, wait a few minutes than restart it. Service engine light remains on. The vehicle was traveling between 55 and 65 mph on the major freeway where the posted speed limit is up to 70 mph, 3 lanes of traffic. Since the loss of power is immediate and I have no control over it, I have very little time to get out of the way of other vehicles before I am in crawl mode. The vehicle was just into the dealership for repairs and I was told it was fixed. Coolant is not low, engine had not overheated and there is no warning that there is an issue until 30 seconds before it starts shutting down. Has happened twice now and it was supposedly fixed after the first time. My vehicle has no open recalls and it has been into the dealership twice in the past 2 weeks with regards to the overheat issue.

There was also a recall on fuel system.my car coincidentally has the same problem.as I'm driving it just stalls and I have to restart it as I'm driving..and Ford will not help. My wife's 2014 Escape worked fine in the morning for her to run and do an errand. When she went to start the car it failed to start and I was able to jump it and get it to a local auto zone for a battery replacement. When I was pulling into auto zone I noticed a small catch while turning left and lost power steering for a few seconds. I made note of it mentally but just focused on getting the battery replaced as that seemed to be the underlying issue. Now the battery has been replaced and I go to leave and I have absolutely no power steering with a warning stating "power steering assist fault" service required. I muscled her car home to recheck my work and its all good. A day later after researching the issue I throw a hail mary and disconnect the battery for about a minute and then reconnected it and bingo I have steering. My wife later left for shopping and had zero issues until her attempt to leave. She immediately got the error message and had intermittent power steering on her drive home but was able to make it with the use of brute force. I had the transmission and recall addressed about two to three months ago and this car has been a pain since then with needing a jump in cold weather. Now this and the outlook of a 2,000 repair when it took a dealership 2 months to do a recall and replace the transmission that was magically "fried" I'm hesitant to trust anything Ford says but this a huge safety issue that has documented history and needs to be a recall. Now I need to find out why its in and out and what to do moving forward. #fordservicesucks

My 2014 Ford Escape with the 1.6L ecoboost has a safety recall for cracking of the cylinder head, there fix for this only to place a coolant sensor in the coolant reservoir. So I had the recall installed, not long after I stared having issues with lossing coolant. Next if stared missing well I took it in and the dealer said "you have a cracked engine block" when ask to prove the block was cracked they could not, and the dealer also told me that, "they have to replace the engine even if its only a head" so Ford is making to where the costumer is responsable for replacing the engine. Then after I got my car back 2 months later, my streering had a catch occasionally then started locking up completely and happend to be stationary or very low speeds when it did lock up. So I take it back to Ford dealer again they say I have to pay for every thing so when I go to do the work myself I descoviored they completly left of the shroud under the car that channals cold air between the exhust and electronic steering gear. So took it back and made the dealer replace the part. The dealer told me this is a comon problem. This is defentley a safety issue that needs addressed!!!
