Escape LX 2.0L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Normally, the Escape accelerates fine, but about once a week or so the car will suddenly lose power and only go ~5mph. Stopping and restarting the car fixes the issue. No error codes when I take it to the shop.

Escape SE 2.0L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,600 miles

This happened to me 6 different times in a month while in Pittsburgh traffic. I stop at a light/ stop sign waiting for traffic to pass. Try to take off, and it starts fine, so I feel confident enough to give it more gas and take off, get out into the middle of the intersection and car loses all power, will only go 5 to 8 MPH. Engine doesn't stall, just acts like it is in limp mode, no warning lights, no dings or bells to alert of a problem, just doesn't want to even get out of its own way. restarting clears the problem, starts right back up. 5 of the 6 times could have caused an accident had I not learned from the first time to give myself more than enough time to pull out and limp the car to the side of the road (if it decides to try to kill me), up onto the curb to get out of traffic and remain safe. Took to dealer on first incident, they test drove for an hour without replicating the problem, took it home, happened 3 more times over a couple weeks, then twice in the same day. dealer told me to not shut it off (apparently shutting off new cars clears any codes stored in memory?). so the last time I drove it, I decided to see how far it would go before it stalled, after about 15 seconds, it cleared up and ran like it was supposed, took to dealership, without shutting it off, they hooked it up, NO CODES! A serious problem like that and it doesn't throw a problem code?! I am actually a bit afraid to drive the car to work in the traffic again, it's not safe for high traffic areas. Service manager at dealership contacted me today after having the car for 4 days and said that they have a ford guy helping with the problem and that they have duplicated the problem.

Update from Oct 21, 2016: Update almost a year later, sorry for not keeping posted. The dealership had my car for a week after getting in touch with Ford. They replaced a few transmission parts, not sure which parts as their description was very vague and had no part numbers, labor codes, work hours, etc. after that fix, I haven't had that issue present itself again.

I did have a few slight system glitches recently though, but no problems arose from them. one was a random display message that said 4x4 disabled, but only showed for 2 seconds and went away. the same day, I had a message that said something about hill assist malfunction ( I was on a flat road.) I will go through my paperwork and try to find exactly what trans parts were changed.

Update from Sep 16, 2020: The vehicle now has just under 65,000 miles. Is currently exhibiting the same issue, but seems to be caused by wheel speed sensors. The hesitation is every ignition cycle, when out into drive, it will move about 10 to 20 feet before traction control warning flashes, bell chimes, ABS light is illuminated constantly. After initial failure clears, (about 5 seconds of no throttle response) warning lights stay illuminated, but vehicle seems to drive fine. 4x4 is constantly engaged at this point making slow speed tight turns jerky and clunky. Brakes feel weird and abs doesn't function. In gravel with heavy throttle, tires will spin, traction control no longer functioning.

Scheduled at local dealership for repairs Sept. 21, 2020.

Will update with repair.

Escape Ranger 2.2L D

  • Manual transmission
  • 1,864 miles

I bought the Bakkie bran new to eliminate any problems that second hand cars can give you.

Now FORD ROODEPOORT wants to work on the engine - i feel its unacceptable as the bakkie is brand new - no work should be done. his can only result in more failure in the future.

I requested a new bakkie due to it being bought on the 23d SEPT 2015.

I believe buying a new car should not result in it being taken in twice in 1 month. I have decide to cancel the buy and go to another vehicle brand
