I believe the same issue with previous models of Ford Escapes and other models with the recall based on the coolant leaking into the engine and causing burning and fires is still a relevant issue in models further. I bought my 2016 Ford Escape a year ago from carmax with 61K miles. Within one month and constant service the car would not stop burning coolant. No leaks or anything I paid to have it checked by three different mechanics because all of them told me there had to be a leak. Carmax states that this is not something they can not cover. But it seems to not be any person at fault. There are no leaks I've had the car inspected. It's still runs a year later, but catches on fire if left running in park or idle for more than five minutes. Smokes a ton first then something ignites. Every time you start it though there's a cloud of thick white smoke which eventually clears while I'm driving. Don't have the money to repair this so I have to keep driving it like this. Ford has had this issue already in the previous models. I've attached the cutout from the prior recall on previous models. I appreciate and thankyou for your time. I've always wanted to be apart of helping the bigger picture.

Escape 4-cyl

  • 90,000 miles
I have only had my car 4. bought it brand new. Now the transmission is out. I attached a copy of what they said is wrong with it. It did not set off any sensors. It would not reverse ir drive. Then a sensor went on. I had to get it towed. This is some sort of defect. A couple of days before it went out it was chugging in liw gear. Like it kept slipping. Once again no lights came on. So I continued to drive thinking it was just because it was in low gear. Then the day it went out. I went to put it in reverse and it would not go. I turned the car off and started it again and it worked. At this point I just wanted to get it home but did not make it. Had to get it towed. I do not feel I should have to pay $8000 to get it fixed. I have maintained the whole time.

Over the past year (purchased vehicle 4/30/2019), I've experienced stalling at different instances. The vehicle has stalled while waiting at a traffic light. It has stalled while driving 65 mph on the highway. In the past year, I've taking the vehicle to the Ford dealer for repair on 2 occasions because of this. The first time I took it in 2019, they said that they couldn't find anything wrong. During this period, the engine light wasn't on. However, the last time I took it in, the engine light was on. The service department at Ford informed me that I needed the CO2 sensor replaced. I paid them $500 to replace the sensor. The vehicle stalled again on my way home from Ford. I called them as soon as got home to inform them that the vehicle stalled again. Again, I will be taking it back to them on 4/27. I also found out that the vehicle was recalled in 2017 of August, recall # 17C11 (air bag issue). According to the history of the vehicle, this has never been addressed/repaired/replaced.

While driving on I-95 in Maryland on 1/29/20 when I heard an explosion and realized my sunroof had either exploded or imploded. As I drove I could hear the glass sliding on the headliner which fortunately was closed. I was able to drive to where I was staying as I was working out of state (I live in wellington, fl), covered my car roof with a tarp and then took it in for repairs. The day it happened the weather was sunny, not very hot and there were no objects that hit the roof of my car.

2 weeks after I purchased my 2016 Ford Escape, the radio started to turn off and on, then randomly started changing stations on its own. Also, when the bluetooth is in use, after ending a call the screen would freeze. I would then need to turn off the vehicle and take the key out of the ignition to sort of reset but now that doesn't work anymore bc the screen is black and the radio only works. The cameras do not work either.

When shifting my car into drive the display on the dashboard indicated that the car was in reverse even though the gear selector was in drive. When I shifted the gear selector into park the dashboard display continued to say that it was in reverse even though the gear selector was in park. With the gear selector in park I turned off the vehicle and attempted to take my foot off of the brakes but the car began to roll forward and the only way that I could stop it was to step on the brakes and then put the emergency brake on to keep the car from continuing to roll forward. I called a tow truck driver to take my vehicle to the dealership and he showed that the bushings that connects the gear shift cable was broken. My research revealed that this is same safety issue that Ford had with previous model years of the Ford Escape resulting in a vehicle recalled. It seems that this recall should be extended to the 2016 model year as well, as I am experiencing the exact same safety issue with the Ford Escape 2016 model year vehicle that other consumers experienced with earlier model year Ford Escape vehicles. The only way to keep this car from rolling forward at anytime even if the vehicle is turned off is to keep on the emergency brake. The recall information for the earlier model year Ford Escapes is recall number 18V471000. The description of the safety issue noted in this recall is identical to the safety issue concerning my vehicle.

"takata recall". when driving a loud sound is heard at the rear of the passenger side of the vehicle. This sound goes on and off and then the vehicle starts to shake, the brake goes to the floor and then there is no way you can control the vehicle and everything shuts down. This happens while I was in the middle lane driving on a city street. This was a scary experience. This same sound happen three times before but the car did not shut down, the vehicle shake after the sounds but I continue driving. My last experience was frightening and I don't think that this vehicle is safe to drive because with that sudden stop I could have been rear end. My life was in danger with my passenger and also the truck driver who came up behind me blowing because he did not know what was going on. To be in that situation by seeing a vehicle coming towards you and your vehicle is stationery in the road and in the end the person who rear end you would be at fault. This keep on happening and I think this is a danger to the driver and passengers, the public because this vehicle cannot be controlled when this happens. I am scared to drive the vehicle after that incident

When accelerating on a highway (going 55 - 60 mph) vehicle abruptly shifts gear and slows down on its own to the point of thinking the vehicle has stopped. This happened twice and then a few days later, the vehicle started hesitating terribly where the car was hopping down the road and would not go over 30 mph. Then at a light it stalled out completely and I was nearly hit. After restarting, the vehicle would accelerate beyond 30 mph. Had it towed to the dealership. Dealership was able to reproduce the following day where it happened three times to them. No codes present, but a couple historical codes for sensors. They indicated they were unsure if the sensors were the issue, but replaced. Picked vehicle up and the same thing happened today. Thankfully I was not on a major highway this time, but the call completely stalled at low speed with ac on and made a loud grinding noise. No check engine light this time either. Had to have it towed again to the dealership. They are currently unsure of the issue. I have no confidence this will be resolved. This issue seems similar to other reports and should be investigated as it is a major safety concern. I am happy to provide more information. I will be escalating this until appropriately resolved. Seems there should be a recall, based on the volume of reports.

I was driving down I25 in Colorado. It was 75 with clear skies with no cars around me. Suddenly I heard a loud sound that sounded like a shot gun went off in my vehicle. We soon realized my sunroof had exploded. Nothing hit it. It just exploded. We later found out this is fairly common. Thankfully we had the shade pulled closed so no one was injured.
