Escape 1.5L 4cly

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,500 miles

Our 2018 ford escape with a 1.5lt eco-boost started having rough idle condition, but no light. On or about Sept. 6 the engine light came on. The car has 63,500 miles on it, we have owned it since it was new. We took it to our local auto repair 1/2 mile from our house. He read the engine code and the code is that there is low coolant and a crack in cylinder. The fix for this is a new short block and head gasket. Ford refused to help with repair even though they know full well about this problem with the 1.5Lt in the Escape.

I have read several TSB’s about this problem and Ford has replaced some of the motors and extended the power train warranty on these to 10 yr or 100,000 miles the TSB’s say 17-19 escape 1.5Lt built before April 8, 2019. This one was built before then, but for some unknown reason ford says it is not included. This problem is dangerous as it can run out of coolant and seize the motor going down the road. Ford garage telling me 7-11k to fix it. I am a life long ford owner, including Ford stock. I have bought nothing but Fords for the last 35 yrs. I HAVE ALWAYS TOLD MY SALES REP I WOULD NOT BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY! AND IF ANY CAR I EVER OWNED HAD A MOTOR BLOW BEFORE 100k that I would never own another FORD. That is where I am at.

Escape SE 2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,913 miles

Technician found coolant in the oil during an oil change. Took vehicle to dealer for second opinion. Recommendation is for engine replacement to the tune of $11,000 or more. The car might be worth $8000. I was hoping to drive this care for 200,000 miles. The coolant intrusion in the engine is so pervasive and common with multiple ford models. It is especially common for 1.5L engines. There are a few class action suits filed due to this issue. This will be my last Ford.
