I purchased this 2022 Ford Escape plug-in hybrid vehicle New in October 2022. In May 2023 I received a recall notice 23S27 / NHTSA Recall 23V380 from Ford Motor Company. According to this recall notice, the parts for the repair to the Engine were expected to be available in October 2023. I have not received any further communication from Ford Motor Company regarding this recall and it is now November 2023. This exceeds a reasonable time to expect repair of this defect. In addition, entering my vehicle information into the Kelley Blue Book web site showed that there are 6 recalls associated with my vehicle. However, entering the VIN number (absolutely correctly) at this NHTSA web site yields: "An error occurred with your request. Recall information for your vehicle is not available at this time. Please contact Ford Motor Company by phone at 1-866-436-7332 or go to their website www.Fordowner.com for recall information about your vehicle." I Called the Ford Motor Company number listed by NHTSA above (866-436-7332) and entered the recall notice number listed on the recall notice, 23S27 (as instructed as 23727), and the automated system reply is: "We did not recognize that entry." I searched under owner.ford.com, clicked on recalls and entered my VIN and found 2 recalls which included this one (23S27 / NHTSA Recall 23V380). For both recalls, it states: "Recall incomplete, remedy not yet available." This exceeds a reasonable time for correction of this defect. It is especially important that this be corrected soon as an UNDER HOOD FIRE and SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER are MAJOR SAFETY CONCERNS.

We were driving on the interstate and the car began to make a metallic clicking/ticking sound. We started to move to the shoulder as we thought it might be a tire issue when we saw an orange glow reflected on the concrete. As soon as we reached the shoulder the engine started pouring out smoke and we immediately left the car. We opened the hood and saw fire inside the engine compartment. We left the hood up and moved away from the car and called 911. It appears this issue is tied to a known, open recall for which Ford has not released any information on how to fix with no specific timeline in place to release the fix. Our safety was at risk as the car was on fire and we were standing on the side of an interstate at midnight not knowing if the fire was going to go out or the car was going to explode; luckily for us it went out. The vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership for inspection. There was an engine service warning immediately before we heard the clicking noise but that is the first notification of any issue.

On November 12, 2022 at approximately 1:00 p.m. an incident occurred with my 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid in Columbia, MO. As I was parking in the Forum Theater parking lot, the engine surged and I had no brakes. I was at a dead stop and when I released the brake to move into a parking slot, the engine surged abruptly. When I applied the brakes, the pedal went clear to the floor with no braking occurring. I absolutely did not hit the wrong peddle causing this surging of power. As a result, the Escape jumped a curb and ran into a tree doing $14,000 damage. The airbags did not deploy nor did the seatbelts lock with the result of my granddaughters and I being thrust sharply forward. Currently the dealer, Moberly Motor Company has no plans to notify Ford of this incident. The $14,000 repair bill is being borne by my insurance, Shelter Insurance. I have written Ford Consumer Relations but to date I have not had a response. My granddaughters and I were blessed that we were not physically injured seriously. However, we are all three having emotional/mental issues from the wreck. The only warning I had was the brakes squealed when I backed out of a parking place prior to the event. The vehicle is currently at Moberly Motor Company in Moberly, MO awaiting parts for repair.

Service engine soon light came on, and the car was very slow to get up to speed and it would no exceed 15MPH. Took it to the dealership and it was initially discussed as a crankshaft sensors that needed cleaning but while cleaning it they notices metal pieces in the oil. I was "recommended" an oil change that I had to pay out of pocket. and that did not solve the issue. Took the car back to the dealer and as of right now they are looking into replacing the engine entirely. Sill no ETA
