Escape 4WD SE 1.6L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 118,437 miles

My wife was driving home on an interstate highway when the transmission started to stop working. The transmission would be in drive and when she pressed on the gas pedal to accelerate, the engine did but the car didn't. It was as if the transmission became disconnected from the engine. She was luckily able to get the car off the highway to a safe location. This could have caused a serious accident since it happened without warning on a congested highway. Car was unable to move anywhere so a tow truck was called to bring it to a nearby Ford dealer that was still open. Dealer found that the transmission had internal faults & part failures. Upon investigating this issue online, it seems that Ford is experiencing many transmission failures of not only this model but their larger & smaller models too. Class action and lemon law suits have been filed against Ford for all 3 transmission models since they were unwilling to issue recalls.
