I've done regular maintenance on my Hybrid Escape and with only 63,000 miles the transmission Power take off unit needs to be replaced. It's a special order part and will cost a total of $2931 (including labor). Looking at the other complaints, this seems to be a major issue that Ford is not acknowledging nor taking care of.
This is ridiculous! I paid enough for the car! I will be looking for a different make/model and will not be considering a Ford again!
Update from Apr 26, 2015: I did get my Hybrid Escape repaired at a total of $2600. The dealership that fixed it was good enough to knock $300 of the original estimate. He said that they saw quite a few of these problems. After I got the vehicle home, we found that it was leaking and it turned out to be the seal on the PTO that they had just replaced. My local dealership fixed it under warranty. Still the time, energy and money this cost me is unacceptable. I will probably not be buying another Ford of any make.
