Escape Hybrid SE 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 43,000 miles

This has happened twice in the last 3 months. I'll describe it the best I can. Driving along, no warnings or dash lights but the car will just coast. Engine is on, rpms will go up, but it just stops driving. Coast to a stop. Won't go forward or reverse but the engine is still running. Turn it off and get check engine light and a warning does flash but didn't catch it. Let it sit for 5 minutes, won't turn back on. Wait some more, starts and runs ok.

The first time, brought it to dealer. They ran diagnostics and said "gsm (gear shift module) lost communications". Had to wait for the part, but ran ok till they got it in 1 week later. Replaced that (not under warranty).

Drove fine for 2 months. Just happened again. The dealer I originally took it to couldn't get me an appointment for 3 weeks. I took it to another dealer and they said it is the hybrid coolant pump. Since I have 43k miles, it is not under warranty and will cost $750 to replace. They are waiting on the parts.
