The contact owns a 2001 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that vehicle caught on fire while parked. Prior to the fire, she noticed a burning smell when she activated the cruise control function. The fire department was notified of the failure and was called to extinguish the fire. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The current and failure mileage was 200,000. A police report was not filed. The consumer also stated the driver's seat belt would become loose. Updated 09/28/11

The drivers seat belt releases periodically for no apparent reason. The seat belt will fasten with a click and appears securely fastened. Then occasionally (at least once per week) while driving it will release for no apparent reason. This has been occuring over the past 6 months (at least).

The front passenger seat-belt buckle becomes unlatched on an intermittant basis. Belt buckle will insert and snap most of hte time, but there have been several instances when the buckle snapped as if it was latched, but come unlatched when a force was applied to the buckle (as when leaning forward).
