The contact owns a 2002 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle automatically engaged the four wheel drive when it reached speeds between 30 to 35 mph. The vehicle then began pulling to the right. The contact was able to manually shift the vehicle into drive without having to stop the vehicle or turn the engine off. The vehicle also with much force lunged to the right when the four wheel drive activated on it's own. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 42,000.

The steering was erratic. The vehicle was taken to a dealership, who indicated that 3 out of the 4 tires were defective, and the belts were separating. Also, indicated that the tires weren't covered under any kind of warranty. There was tread separation recall 02T01200 on this issue but the consumer wasn't notified.
