I bought this car used with 70k on it. Within days of taking delivery of the vehicle I noticed this problem. When I took it into Koons Ford Sterling in Virginia, I was told that Ford does not cover leaks in their vehicles.
I have done some research and found that FORD MOTOR COMPANY has a TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) on this issue. The TSB NUMBER IS TSB 05-20-7.
I plan on taking it back to them and shoving the bulletin in their face. The dealer did not have the integrity to admit to me that there was a TSB that they were aware of it. UNETHICAL, UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNTRUSTWORTHY,

Huge vertical crack on the back lift gate of my beloved white Mercury Mountaineer. I called Ford Service department and they said there is no recall on that problem. I am seeing many cracked lift gates around town on the same type of vehicle, so I know it is a real problem that hopefully Ford will address.
I understand that this appears to be a cosmetic issue, but I have noticed that rain and pollen is getting in there, so I'm not sure how long before something more critical results from this crack.
