During a recent failure, the contact crashed into a fence as part of the fence had become wedged underneath the vehicle. After placing the vehicle into park and exiting the vehicle, the wheels continued to move. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. Despite minor soreness to his neck, no medial attention was required. A police report was not filed. Despite the failure, the contact managed to restart the vehicle and safely to his destination. The fence sustained severe damage as a result of the failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.

While in traffic, at least 100 times in the last four years (at variable speeds from 5 to 65 mph on city streets and freeways) most recently twice in the last week, the rpms drop below 500 and the vehicle dies and "engine failsafe mode" lights up on the dash. I have to either coast to pull over or dead stop in the middle of the road. I have to turn the vehicle completely off (even though in failsafe mode engine is off, the electronics are still on) and then restart and then it will drive just fine until it happens again. It happens anywhere from once every 6 months to 6 times in 1 week. It seems as though if I drive with both feet in traffic and maintain about 800-1000 rmps at all times it doesn't do this, however this cannot be done all the time especially when trying to stop the large vehicle quickly or turning in an intersection. Nothing has been diagnosed by dealership as no codes are thrown. I also own a obd2 reader and no codes have ever listed unless its time to change the spark plugs. Several different mechanics, forums and brainstorming has not figured it out. I have replaced mostly everything with exception to a new transmission and computer. Mostly everything including wires and vacuum lines and gaskets have been replaced due to maintenance or repairs from everything else that has gone wrong with it. I have put about $10K into new parts for this vehicle. I bought it with 60K miles on it and it now has 117K, its a daily driver with 28 miles of travel 5 days a week. Also the only vehicle that fits all of the children for soccer, track and volleyball traveling tournaments/games. Luckily it doesn't happen very often when I'm not in traffic so the kids aren't usually with me but it is very scary not to know if you are going to stop or if the people behind you are going to hit you or not.

I was driving down the freeway approximately 50 mph when my engine completely shut down. There was a beep and a light came on that said "enginer fail safe mode". the engine shut off, but luckily I still had full movement of my steering wheel so I was able to change lanes and get off to the shoulder. I panicked for a moment, but started the car and it started right back up. I attempted my drive to work and made it there. Not sure what to do about the problem, but I'm scared to drive it anymore. Especially with my children in the vehicle and my husband is out of town for work. This is a major safety issue and needs to be recalled.

First occurrence exhibited flickering dashboard lights before the electrical system went completely dead and the engine quit while accelerating at approximately 20 mph. Put vehicle in neutral and was able to restart engine normally before coming to a stop. Have experienced several short instances of dash flickering over the past couple of weeks with no apparent engine problems. During that same period there have been approximately 4 instances of the electrical system being completely dead upon the initial attempt to start the engine. When this happens, the only light that is illuminated on the dash (or anywhere else for that matter) is what I think is the airbag light; however, normal electrical power has, thus far, re-appeared within 5 minutes and the engine then starts and runs normally. Yesterday the "check engine" light came on and I was able to pull a code of P0119 (engine coolant temperature circuit intermittent) upon returning home. I subsequently cleared the code, but the reader indicates another code is "pending". I believe this is a symptom of a larger problem. I have not experienced a "engine failsafe mode" warning message, but this complaint is very similar to many others already posted and I agree with the related safety concerns and need for a recall.

Engine frequently goes in to engine failsafe mode. This happens typically when the car is being lightly throttled such as around corners or in rush hour traffic. The car restarts fine, but must be completely turned off, which disables airbags, makes power steering and power brakes impossible to use. Previously I have cleaned the throttle body of the car at the suggestion of numerous mechanics, and this resolved the issue for nearly a year. Now the problem is back again. I'm concerned for my wife's safety. The throttle body needs to be redesigned as the throttle plate sticking returning invalid data to the computer sending the engine into failsafe mode.

Went to change spark plugs and plugs broke off in the engine. Had to order special tool to remove them, second time they have had to be replaced both times they have broken off. Cost was over $1500

Vehicle simply shuts off at any time and shows 'engine fail safe mode'. this has happened approximately 15 times since we bought the vehicle (used) in March 2012 (most recently on 10/13). I have researched this online and many other owners have the same complaint. We replaced the tps at a cost of around $300 as a possible fix and this worked for about 6 months - now the problem is back and my research indicates we need to have the throttle body replaced. This will cost us around $500 - for a total repair cost of around $800 - which we cannot afford! Ford has literally $hundreds of millions to take care of this and must recall due to this issue - there is no excuse to allow this dangerous problem to continue. Ford Motor Co. Owes me $800 due to their poor engineering and unwillingness to solve this issue - they are greedy crooks.

Lemon! 2006 Ford Expedition beginning of June it started "bogging" down while driving. We took it to autozone, misfire. Took it to a mechanic we know and he told us the codes showed 6,7,8 sparkplugs. Trying to save $.this helped a little, started doing it again but worse, this time it was decelerating we were going 75 & check engine light started flashing & bogged down to 50 on the hwy almost cause several wrecks as I tried to pull over to the side (with my kids in the car) took it into the mechanic & other spark plugs coil packs & 1 injector got it fixed picked it up & didn't even get down the road & it did it again.this time check engine light went off after flashing.took it back to him & no codes couldn't find anything.went hm & almost got in a wreck again! it decelerate to 45 after going 70. We went hm, next morning going to take it back to him again!! while driving, A/C turned off, door sensor alarm fail popped up, another sensor fail, &pulled over put in park & wouldn't come out of park.called mechanic, after so many look overs thinking it was PCM, security module, he gives up after 2 wks of working on it.we get it hm & start looking on here & find so much about this like its going in safe fail mode without shutting off. Start looking at all the other forums & this yr model had 362 complains on another site & many on here, several of this same deal.we started with fuses #5 blown, change blows immediately, change again blows again. Start chasing wires, change again starts up.okay great!!! now rough idle, way bad who cares it starts! drive it to work, we desperately need my car & Ford cant get to it for 1 1/2 months.starts stalling while driving again A/C shuts off and slows down. Ford needs to fix this before it kills someone! this is a major defect that will kill! I have found this same issue on this same site a lot! why isn't anything being done? help!!!!!!!!!

On 1/9/2013, I was driving at approx. 35 mph when the engine turned itself off. I attempted restarting the engine to no avail. I coasted to the side of the road where the engine still would not start. After waiting about five minutes, I was able to restart the engine. The car seemed to run slowly on the way back home. The next time I drove the car, it seemed to run normally. On 2/12/2013, my wife was driving the car at 25 mph when the engine died again. She had to coast to the side of the road & wait to restart the car. She slowly drove back home with the vehicle. Next time the car was taken out, it ran normally. I am concerned that this problem could occur on the interstate highways at a higher speed & the result could have been vastly different.

While driving my 2006 Ford Expedition eddie bauer, the engine completely shuts off. Sometimes while sitting idle and other times while driving 70 mph on the interstate. Tonight, within 1 hour this happened about 15 times where the engine cut off, I lost power steering, had to roll over to the shoulder, turn the key off and back on to restart...sometimes it would take up to 10 minutes to restart. I was lucky we were not hit from behind. I have 2 kids in carseats still that could have been injured. Research online reveals that I am not alone. This is a very dangerous defect that could get somebody killed.

I was driving my 2006 Ford Expedition & the fail safe engine light came on & that stops the gas pedal from working. You then coast over to the side of the road & turn the truck off & restart it like nothing happened. This has happened 2 times about 3 months apart. I had the truck check by bob boyd Ford & they said it needed the throttle body & gas pedal sensor replaced, I called Ford & filed a complaint of how dangerous this is, especially if you are making a left turn in on coming traffic( my Ford case number [xxx]) I then went on a Ford truck forum & found that many others had the same problem with Ford F-150 & Expedition all 2006 models. A person recommended that I replace the throttle position sensor, so I did at bob boyd Ford for $196.58. I also kept the old part.the new part is different in size & has metal key holes instead of plastic. The fail safe engine is only suppose to come on if the engine coolant is very low according to the Ford owners manual, there was no reason for it to come on at any time in my SUV truck. Ford wrote me & the Ohio attorney generals office & said that I have fixed the problem by replacing the throttle position sensor on my own & me paying for it ( case closed). Ford never said any thing to me about replacing the throttle position sensor to fix this problem. Again they said it was the throttle body & gas pedal sensor. The consumer stated upon stopping, he discovered that turning the ignition switch to the off position and turning it back to the on position, the engine would re-start. The dealership was unable to find any problem by running a diagnostic check. The consumer stated no warning lights appeared, except when the engine fail safe mode activated. The engine safe mode warning disappeared upon starting the vehicle.
