This is my 3rd Ford Expedition. I have had a 2000, 2004, and now a 2006. My first two Expeditions never gave me any type of problems like this. Unlike others on this board, I was very fortunate where my Expedition decided to go into "fail safe" mode and lost all power - I was in a residential district near home. I knew from reading on this board that I needed to pull over and shut off the engine and restart it. If this happens again - I am trading it off. I've got a teenage driver and this is my primary vehicle. I agree with others - this is a dangerous situation with multiple occurrences which should have resulted in a recall.
(Like this website - however, mechanics don't appreciate a woman telling them they read about a problem on the internet...)

Wife is buying this vehicle. She was driving along and all of a sudden no acceleration and then the wrench icon pops up on dash panel. She pulls off to shoulder and shifts to park.Still no acceleration so She calls Dealership .They send rollback with a loaner vehicle and takes the Expedition back to Dealership.Dealership calls today (2/6/12) says it needs a throttle body.
After reading all these complaints ,I don't think I want to travel in this vehicle. It's not safe especially on the freeways.

My Mother borrowed my Eddie Bauer edition 2006 Ford Expedition today. While she was at a red light the Engine Fail Safe light came on but the car was still running but would not go. She threw it into park and shut it off. It started right back up and she had no other problems. She called me to find out if that has ever happened before. It has not.
I Googled the issue and came across this site. Now I'm extremely freaked out. This is an issue that could claim lives! Even if Ford won't correct the issue, Ford dealerships should take it seriously and not see dollar signs. I have a 16 year old getting her license today and getting a car for Xmas. Guess what, it will not be a Ford and I will never have her drive mine. This may be an isolated incident but it's already got me considering a new car for myself too. This is my 2nd Ford vehicle. I hated my first and was talked into another and so far have enjoyed it. I have had very minor mechanical issues with this vehicle since I have had it but this is more than I'm willing to risk. I see that it sometimes happens in cold weather if the car wasn't warmed up. It is cold here today in FL (our version of cold) but my mother was already 20 minutes into her drive when this happened. Thank goodness it was at a light and not during a left turn or on a high speed freeway. I will be calling Ford and the Highway Safety office to report this. We all should.
Happy Whatever You Celebrate This Month and I hope each of you have safe travels in this Unrecalled Accident Waiting To Happen
