I am very pleased to be a new member to this website and have used in the past many times as a mechanic. Now that I am retired, I have decided to post issues to this website to help people. First I see many of you mention class action law suits, as a law professional, I would suggest people start using small claims court to go after car companies, because class actions are hard to file and the small claims court is much more friendly to local people that have been screwed by big companies. In addition, it really annoys the big car companies, and they should be annoyed with you as much as you are with their crappy product.

Now to my Fords, I say Fords because this is common to all Ford trucks in this age range and Crown Vics-Mercury. Instead of a lever with a cable to adjust the air coming in form outside or the ac/heat. The Ford geniuses developed small door motors that move the doors based on many inputs, computer, ambient air sensor, etc. Unfortunately the "plastic" they used for the gear system in the actuator was poor quality (saved them 3 cents a car probably), that the gears strip causing an inability to control the heat or ac. Replacement is a "b" rated job and there are many videos on the web to show how to fix the problem. I have used both the aftermarket and ford replacement versions and have not really seen much difference, but some prefer the ford version.
