Expedition LXT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,000 miles

I have a 24 foot boat (5,000 lbs) and was pulling it up out of the lake. Had it in 4 wheel drive high and on an incline. Transmission failed to respond. Shut off the vehicle and restarted, transmission failed to respond a second time. Shut off the engine again and switched it back to 2 wheel drive and put it in 1st gear and was then able to pull the boat out of the water and up the incline. This is a critical safety issue as the vehicle started to roll backwards into the lake. Fords really needs to address this.

I brought this to my dealer in Champaign, IL and he ck'd out the transmission and said that they could not find anything wrong. The dealer admitted to me that he also had a Expedition and a boat and the same thing has happen to him and he has submitted a report to Ford. Ford had yet to deals with this issue. What are they waiting for - deaths to occur???

Expedition 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

I purchased a used 2007 Ford Expedition from a local Ford dealer. Since I purchased it I have had a few problems related to the brakes, the engine running smoothly, and the 4 wheel drive operation. I have had most of the problems resolved at my expense. The problem that I am experiencing with the 4 wheel drive operation has yet to be resolved. The problem I am having is when the vehicle is in 4 wheel drive low it will not pull itself up an incline that every other 4 wheel drive vehicle, that we own, has no problem with. It seems as though the front wheels are engaging but the rear wheels are not working to assist with the climb. In the particular area we are having problems the front end slides to the side, on a slope that has a significant drop off, when you are accelerating and the rear wheels don't appear to be doing anything. The problem has occurred with at least 2 different drivers that had not talked to each other about the issue.

We purchased this vehicle to be used when needed to access communications sites located on mountain tops as well as normal day to day driving.

The last time I took the vehicle to the dealer and explained the problem they were very nice and kept the vehicle for a few days to check it out. When I called to find out what they found they told me that they couldn't find any problem. They contacted what they called a hotline and the hotline told them that since the computer had not given them any trouble codes, "that it is likely that this is an operational characteristic of the vehicle relative to the conditions the vehicle was subjected to and no repair attempts should be made to correct this characteristic." I don't agree!

This vehicle not performing to reasonable expectations has caused a significant safety issue for the person driving it when used in the 4 wheel drive for climbing somewhat steep grades.
