Expedition King Ranch EL V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

I am writing as a Loyal Ford Owner I currently have a 1966 Ford Mustang Hardtop Coupe, 1988 Ford Mustang 5.0, 2008 Ford Expedition and a 2012 Ford Fusion. I have the vin numbers for all these vehicles. It is also worth mentioning I worked as an auto insurance claims adjuster for 15 years working in various body shops and have written over 10,000 estimates so I know my way around cars.

With that being said I was horrified when I simply tried to roll down the passenger front door of the 2008 Ford Expedition the other day and I heard the sound of plastic cracking and I quickly rolled the window back up so that if it was going to get stuck I didn't want it to be in the down position. I said immediately, I know that Ford didn't try and save money, vehicle weight, or just plain stupidity by putting plastic regulators on these trucks. In all my years I have never seen plastic regulators whenever I had to replace a door for a customer that had been involved as an accident as an adjuster. They have always been metal. I have seen metal regulators wear out on cars over 20 years old but seldom under normal wear and tear and especially the act of simply rolling it down.

My car has not been in any accident, I purchased the car new, there has been no impact to the door and no recent work done to the door or replacement of the door glass as a one owner. In all the Fords I have owned and currently owned this is the first time I felt compelled to file a complaint. My 1988 Ford Mustang 5.0 I am also a one owner I bought in 1989 as a dealer vehicle never titled. I could see the door regulator going out on my 27 year old mustang but not my 7 year old Expedition. I have yet to replace the regulators on my 1988Ford Mustang 5.0!!!!

I want to know who bright idea it was to put plastic door regulators on a full sized truck like an Expedition. I could only imagine the weight of that door glass being moved up and down by a plastic regulator, it was only a matter of time before it failed. A metal regulator not damaged by an accident would never had done this, Therefore I believe for is liable for these repairs for producing such an inferior product.

The Ford Dealership car is currently located at is Haldeman Ford in Hamilton Township, NJ. The tech called me today to confirmed what I already suspected that the plastic regulator failed on the passenger front door and it was going to cost me $575.00 to get it fixed. I believe that this is a repair that Ford should cover as door regulators not impacted in an accident don't typical break and shatter from the weight of the glass and it was an engineering fault to make door regulators out of plastic on a full sized SUV anyway. You maybe able to get away with on a passenger sedan like my 20912 Ford Fusion but not on an Expedition King Ranch EL that I paid over 55k brand new and over 63k including interest.

I am a former Army Officer, Iraq disabled Veteran, I have all my documents. I work very hard to buy quality products and believe in paying for what I get. I am totally not happy about this manufacturing defect on my truck and hope that Ford steps up and does the right thing and reimburses me for my repairs I will take all necessary steps to keep this matter alive and in the public eye until it is resolved to my satisfaction. If the repair was 100-200 dollars I would have just taken care it with no complaints. But I feel compelled to take a stand here because I have 3 more plastic regulators on my vehicle that could also fail at any moment due to normal wear and tear and raising and lowering the window which its supposed to be able to do.

Please contact me at 301-404-6231 and tell me how we can best resolve this matter. After being a loyal Ford Customer for almost 30 years I want to see what happens next. Will Ford step up and do the right thing or hide behind that Big Blue Oval? Only time will tell.

Ok, so the cable breaks in the dang regulator. Over mileage for warranty replacement for free. The dealer we took it to says that it is a known problem, so get in before 50k miles. To get the part anywhere you walk into cost 200+ depending on who you use. I can find online for 144 w/ 30 dollar core charge(oh yeah they charge that in store too.)
