My Ford Expedition has lost power 4 times requiring me to pull off the Interstate and have the car towed. I have been driving 75-80 mph each time this has happened. It is as if the car takes a big deep breath, and then loses all power. It failed most recently on Halloween 2023, and then again in March of 2024. Prior to these two times, the car has lost power 2 other times. It has always been serviced at a Ford dealership. All three times INCLUDING this last time the dash lights on the car have read, "powertrain failure" and "pre-collision brake assist not available". When it failed in March, even though it registered a code both on my dash and in my Ford Pass App, the dealership said they could not reproduce the problem therefore, there was nothing they could fix. I am scared to get behind the wheel of this car. I also do not want to sell it to anyone else for fear they will have the same problem. Cars don't just lose power while driving 75 mph. It is dangerous and a definite safety concern. It is not like I am driving a pinto. This was a brand new car, is fully paid for, has clean maintenance records, and is an expensive vehicle. It has been well taken care of and should not have power failure four times at only 4 years old. It is terrifying to be driving at high speed and lose power. I have been very lucky to not have caused a secondary accident on the freeway, or been in an accident myself when this has happened.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds in 3rd to 4th gear, the vehicle decelerated. The contact stated that it felt as if the transmission was slipping; however, the vehicle was accelerating normally. The contact stated that while in reverse, the vehicle would slam into gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure while in reverse was duplicated and the valve body was replaced. The failure recurred and the contact stated that the vehicle would also aggressively accelerate forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving on the highway at moderate speeds during rush hour there was noticeable hesitation/delay with acceleration (automatic transmission). It made a noticeable clunk and it completely lost power momentarily. I called the Ford dealership and was told there is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on this exact issue but it's not covered under a recall. I received further correspondence stating that because it's not a recall it has to go through Ford's warranty department and it may not be covered. My vehicle has been at the dealership since March 8th. This is very dangerous and is a significant safety risk to have harsh and delayed shifting, clunking and power loss. I hope a safety recall can be recommend to prevent serious injury.

Frequent Hard shifting, especially going from 3-4 and 6-7. Frequent Clunking and hard shift while driving around town. While traveling in the interstate at approximately 55-60mph, Multiple times I have encountered accelerating on the freeway and momentarily losing power, feels like it shifted to neutral as I could not accelerate despite hitting the gas. After a few seconds the transmission shifts back and I can accelerate, but it was as if the transmission didn't know what gear to be in and it continues to shift hard before eventually going back to normal.

Transmission overheated while going 70-75 mph on the interstate without warning. I Pulled over and saw the thermostat to be overheated to 277 degrees (proof with picture). I along with my husband and 3 young kids Had to be towed 60 + miles back to my house. I was informed by 2 different mechanics the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle had 89k miles on it. I attempted have it checked by a Ford dealership (there are 4 nearby) and all had at least a 12 week waitlist to be diagnosed. During the diagnostic period my vehicle would have to remain on the lot. No dealership would provide a loaner vehicle during that time. Due to financial and work responsibilities, I was unable to do that. We went with a different mechanic to replace with a new transmission (proof with documentation). I am also on the waiting list (10 weeks) to have the cam phasers be diagnosed, this time by the ford dealership. My mechanic I used for the transmission already reported they needed to be changed but I am waiting to see what Ford says. There has been no warning of this happening

The vehicle has harsh shifting, it will skip gears, while driving you will at times hear a grinding noise and the gear drops to 1st and the RPM revs up very high. My safety was put at risk multiple times while driving when the car randomly decides to drop down to first gear. Ford has admitted the problems with the transmissions but will not do anything for the consumer to make it right. My vehicle has been in a ford dealership where they -??reset the values-?? and that has done nothing for it.

Powertrain malfunction per engine light on dash and ford app description. Car lost gas power and immediately came to a halt. When trying to get car going it would not shift into gear. Got it to the ford parts store and they said it needs a complete new transmission. There were no warnings prior to the transmission going out.

When entering the vehicle and closing all doors, one pushes the start button. Once starting to drive or reverse, an error message appears "Transmission Not in Park". The error message stays until the vehicle is put into motion. Then when coming to a stop, the error message reappears. It is understood the transmission is not in park because one is attempting to drive the vehicle. The vehicle drives fine, but the message appears repeatedly while in reverse and or drive. Many forums have suggested the rotary dial to engage the different drive modes is not speaking with the door latches. No other warnings appear and no doors are ajar.

At highway speeds the transmission will lose all power like it's in neutral. The vehicle will have no power when this happens. Ford has had a tsb for this problem. This is very dangerous and should be a safety recall.

On December 19, 2023 my 2019 Ford Expedition the Cam Phasers failed on the EcoBoost V6 Engine requiring a $3,500 repair. A local Ford dealership has confirmed this issue and are proceeding with the repairs. This is a very common issue with the EcoBoost V6 Engine and Ford needs to address this issue.

On multiple occasions I have experienced a sudden loss of power. This seems to happen when excelerating while entering/merging on to the freeway. There is a large bang/clunk and then no power. This has caused nearly caused me to be in accidents, especially when trying to merge into speeding traffic. I'm afraid this is going to cause an accident.

Expedition shifts terribly. Gets stuck in 4th gear and jerks very badly. Car has shut off multiple times while driving. Expedition will get stuck in the middle of traffic lights due to it not being able to shift up gears. Gets stuck in 4th gear every time it stops so then have to put car in park and turn off for it to be able to drive. The 10 speed transmission needs a recall asap before there is a death if there isn-??t some already.

In June of 2022 (50,284 miles) we were experiencing hard shifting and noises upon starting. We took it to our local dealership in Virginia who did an upgrade on the powertrain control module and told me what I was experiencing was normal for this transmission and not a concern. In December of 2022 (57,715 miles), my husband was driving our expedition when it suddenly downshifted, would not accelerate, and a warning popped up saying -??drive mode unavailable-??, in addition to a wrench and engine light displaying on the dashboard. We immediately had it towed to our local dealership where they diagnosed the problem as needing a MAP sensor replacement even though there was no codes showing. In March of 2023 (at 63,20 miles) while traveling with my 2 young children down the highway at 75 mph in a desolate area, my car made a noise, downshifted very hard, and lost ability to accelerate. The same warning popped up stating -??drive mode unavailable-??. I had to maneuver my vehicle to the shoulder in traffic traveling at a high rate of speed with my children in the car. I again had it towed to a ford dealership where they stated it was due to the previous dealership only replacing one MAP sensor so they replaced both. On October 28, 2023 (at approximately 72,000 miles) while traveling at 75 mph on a highway in a desolate area, my car again downshifted, lost the ability to accelerate, and had the same pop up stating -??drive mode unavailable-?? with the same warning lights as the previous 2 times. I had to navigate across multiple lanes to the shoulder in low visibility pouring rain with vehicles driving at a high rate of speed. My car has been at a dealership for 2 weeks now and they have diagnosed the issue is my cam phasers and the repair is for them to be replaced. I opened a case with Ford customer experience who agreed to pay 40% of the cost. I have been put in dangerous situations due to Ford-??s refusal to put out a recall when it is a known issue.

2019 Ford Expedition engine rattles on cold start, while driving at highway speeds, loss of engine power, and when Auto start/stop engages, it will, at times, "catch" and turn vehicle off due to lack of engine power- it will then flash a warning message stating driver must shift to park, then restart vehicle. Cam Phaser/Cam shaft wears prematurely, thus, not allowing it to open and close valves related to the crankshaft and pistons, which in turn poses a risk to both the vehicle operator as well as drivers on the road. Safety is a put at risk due to the cam phaser adjusting the camshaft so the car responds to low RPM- This causes reduced engine power and potential stalling- which is a major concern when driving any vehicle, especially on freeways with small children in the car. This problem has been confirmed by a dealing, specifically a dealer services manager, who stated "its a very known issue and somehow hasn't been recalled yet". The vehicle has been inspected a ford service manager The first known symptom is the rattle sound upon cold start, then other symptoms arose such as the lack of engine power, stalling, and auto start/stop not working correctly. The only "warning" is that of the auto start/stop malfunction that offers upon stalling (at a stop speed), this does not include stalling when at highway speeds.
