Somewhere around 150,000mi after the 40 min/45mi highway drive inbetween towns the transmission would grind in first gear after each time I stop. Once it shifts into 2nd gear the grinding noise goes away. It also grinds a little everytime I travel in reverse. Just the other day at appx. 155,555mi it started to jutter and lose a little power on the freeway. I found that if I backed off the accelerator to 55 the jutter and slipping would stop and I could resume normal highway speeds (65-75mph). The town I'm currently living in is almost an hour away from the nearest transmission shop so I'm wondering if anyone had any ideas..and if its even worth fixing the automatic transmission. This is my second Explorer, I loved my first one which was a 92 with a manual transmission.
