I identified the defective tires before they failed. 95% of each tire was like new, but the inside tread was warn down to the steel belts. I contacted Ford, but they said the only thing they would do was look at it. I already knew there was a problem and declined their offer to "look at it!" after going through three sets of front tires in 75,000 miles, I convinced my front end alighment mechanic to set the angle of the alignment so that the tops of the tires were out 1/4 inch. This seems to have stopped the problem. I beleive that this was a design defect that was compounded by a flawed alignment specification. I'm sure that I would have experienced a blowout, if I had not performed my own oil changes and kept such a close eye on the tire wear.( dot number: Tire size: P22570R15 )

I replaced my tires today because of noticeable cracking/tread separation. 2 tires were very bad. I did not want to put my 2 year old child in jeopardy any longer by waiting for the recall on these tires. What documentation do I need to keep" do I need to get the dealer to note on my receipt that the old tires are cracked" I did not keep the old tires. The new tires were purchased at san benito tire, Inc., 246 tres pinos rd., hollister, ca (831) 637-5804( dot number: )

Two weeks ago we brought the car to a Firestone dealer for the recall. They put us on a waiting list and said not to worry, they looked at the tires and they were fine. Yesterday my wife was driving on the freeway and the tire came apart. She narrowly avoided an accident as she was slowing down to exit the freeway. Upon inspection, the tire had a major hole from separation, not from any foreign object. Today we bought new tires because the Firestone dealer still did not have any replacement tires.( dot number: Tire size: P235R15 )

In my opinion, the Ford Explorer and Ford F series pickups have unusual front end harmonics problems, which causes premature and unusual tire wear symtoms. Ford recommends to rotate tires at 6000 miles, on Ford Explorer, if you wait till 6,000 miles the tires will have unusual tire wear to the point that rotating the front to the rear, and hope the rear tires will correct themselves within next 6000 rotation will not occur. In other words, the Ford Explorer will wear tires to unusual limits within 6,000 miles to where rotation will not take care of the problem within the next 6000miles. I bought 4 brand new Goodyear Wrangler rt's at 28,000 miles, they needed rotated far before 34,000 miles, Goodyear said wait until the 34,000 miles which I did. I rotated the tires again at 40,000 miles and traded vehicle off at 41,000 miles. The tires were of good tread but worn in a crazy fashion in an irregular manner. 4 new shocks did not help, the Ford garage checked the alignment and stated the vehicle was within specs. I bought a Ford F-250 with Goodyear at's, and it to seems to be wearing the tires funny. I do not drive erratic and do keep the tire pressure to the recommended psi. For years, when Ford had the twin I-beam front suspension on its P/U's, the tires wore funny and also would not last till the 6000 mile rotation point. Ford has had a problem with very unusual tire wear for years, and it must be with Ford's suspension system, weight to ground pressures or harmonics, but they have a very serious design flaw which effects its tires to wear unusally on the Ford Explorer series and the Ford F series, this is a certainty. The problem does not just effect Firestone tires!!!!!!!( dot number: Tire size: P235R75-15 )

Wilderness ht brand blew at 65 mph on expressway. I keep the air pressure at normal. No rubber left, no nails found, was riding on the rim. Reported it to Firestone dealer. I had to purchase a new tire, took out another warranty because I couldn't find the first receipt and Firestone does not keep the warranty info in their computer system. How convenient. I have had continual problems with the front tires and need constant alignment. Firestone said they could not find a problem twice, but I believe it is the tires. The ht brand is just as unsafe as the at and ATX. The SUV drives like it is always windy outside and the truck feels like it is hard to control. The recall needs to include the ht brand.( dot number: Tire size: 23575R15 )

Ford dealer that repaired the damage to the Ford advised me that the tread had seperated and blown the tire apart. He pointed out that the three remaing tires had a crack around the ties where the tread attaches to the body, and sugessted that I take the car to Firestone for replacement as they were defective. The Firestone mgr examined my tires and agreed that all four should B replaced. He stated that he would have to order them and would call me when the came in. The tires came in and were installed June 28 1999. Firestone did not replace the blown tire at no charge but gave me an adjusted price charging me $59.99 for each of 4 tires plus balance, new valve stems, tire disposal fee, road hazard warranty, pls shop supplys. Total adjusted price $359.49 I was unaware at the time of the problem Firestone was having or I would never have been agreeable to that deal. I have copy of tire invoices, work performed byjohnson brothers Ford and road service to place spare on at time of accident. If you need more information please let me know.( dot number: Na tire size: 25570R16 )

I cannot read the dot number, but the tires were manufactured in Canada. The failure that occured was as follows: Left front tire completely deflated after driving ~150 miles at 65 mph on interstate 81 in va. No puncture was found, however air was leaking from large cracks that appeared at the tread line. Similar cracks were observed on the front right tire, although it did not deflate. Both front tires were replaced with the same Firestone tires on 6/1/2000. The rear tires are now developing cracks in the same locations.( dot number: Tire size: P255 70R16 )

Fluid which was later confirmed to be oil from overflow tank spilled out on brakes on passenger side. I had to drive 2 hours back to North Carolina because the dealership in galax, va closed at noon on saturdays. If I was by myself it would be a different story but I had my child with me. Town and country Ford confirmed the situation and stated that Ford had sent out a memo saying if the vehicle was in warrantee the could put the cover on to prevent this problem but due to my mileage I had to pay $375.oo not including parts to have this taking care of. My question is if they put this device on and knew this could happen why not warn the consumer instead of finding out this way and why should I have to pay for a potential safety hazard which was not of my making. I called the 800 number on several occasions; got a claims number and that was it. The second time they said call town and country Ford which the regional rep still hasn't responded. Next, I sent them a E-mail stating the problem and still no response. On the tires, which I had to replace myself, except for the spare which is a Firestone, since the warranty was not honored stating that since they were only they were only the stateside receiving dealership they were not responsible. The tires blew out less than two weeks after picking up the vehicle. I am very displeased with Ford. According to the distance of travel I have resorted to renting so I would not have to worry about getting into an accident with my child in the vehicle. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. I can replace a vehicle but not a life. However, I refuse to pay for something which was already there to begin with. Thanking you in advance for your time and attention in this matter.

While driving to work on May 30, 2000, the Firestone ATX tire's outer surface split off from the rest of the tire. About 30% of the tread split from the tire resulting in damage to the rear wheel well body damage at the rear and tearing off plastic trim. This occurred on a particularly danagerous stretch of road through tijeras canyon East of albuquerque, New Mexico. Our son was fortunate to maintain control of the vehicle and get off the freeway to change the tire. When he took the tire to Firestone tire at 9500 montgomery ne, albuquerque, nm 87111, tel: 505-293-4921, he was told he must buy a new tire and that he could mail the defective tire somewhere and then get part of it reimbursed. Firestone implies that he must have been responsible for the damage. This tire and the four others on the Explorer have been replaced this date with four new Michelin tires. We want nothing more to do with Firestone tires. The cost of replacing the tires was over $500 including tax, balancing, caps. Firestone's recall and offer to replace tires of the same kind would be unacceptable to us. We have lost total confidence in this company. It is despicable that they have covered up the defects in their tires for this long and that people have lost their lives. They don't deserve to be in business. Thank you for the opportunity to register our complaint. The timeim from the vehicle.casing.( dot number: Vnhl P8 tire size: P235/75R15 )
