This is an obvious defect and should be made into a recall item. The crankshaft position sensor is DEFECTIVE, DEFECTIVE, DEFECTIVE.
WRITE FORD, YOUR CONGERSSMEN, THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL. THE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE.
EMAIL ALL YOUR FRIENDS, FORD IS F*D UP AND SELLS ST TO THE CONSUMERS. THEY MAKE MONEY FROM MAKING REPAIRS ON DEFECTIVE S*T.

I hate ford i bought it used and carfax said it was one owner they lied not to mention i had to learn the hard way about ford after 2 taurses and 1 escort and 1 explorer later and thousands in repairs i have learned never buy ford i have replaced about everything in the explorer and the taurses both had blown engines after about 5000 miles and the escort caught fire on the dealers lot when traded i still have to laugh about that one i cannot belive that people still buy them never buy ford it will cost you more to repair than worth

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) has failed once at 30,000 and once at 50,000 miles on my 1998 Ford Explorer. Had it towed to the dealer twice. Was fixed the first time under warranty, the second time was $1000. Ford would not fix it free the second time. How often can one part like this fail? My next car will not be Ford, that's for sure.

The engine will start but will not idle or run without holding the gas pedal down a bit.
