The rear door handle broke loose from the door, because Ford used PLASTIC RIVETS
- Steve S., Ashland, OH, US
These handles are cheap-made of plastic it seems. I went to junkyard to see about finding replacement, but ALL 1998 ford explorer door handles have been taken already. Apparently this is one of the most purchased items at a junkyard and every other ford and car in a junkyard has their handles intact. Seems these plastic or pot-metal (not sure which) should be RECALLED because they are VERY INCONVENIENT to REPLACE, nearly impossible to find replacement handles, FORD charges outrageous price for new handle + over 250 to install it, and it's ridiculous that these snap off as easy as they do. One time your lock sticks/jams and you attempt to open the door and SNAP you are done. I cannot BELIEVE these have not been RECALLED or a CLASS ACTION SUIT not filed against these yet. No other car seems to have as many broken exterior door handle complaints.
