Bought this car from a friend for a great price, low milege, and good records. He mentioned that the LCD on the radio worked intermittenly. Since I have owned the car, about 1 year, the LCD has worked about 20% of the time. I was able to program my radio stations so that I know where they are, but when my wife drives it she gets upset cause she can't listen to what she wants. I will pretty much just live with it until it pisses me off enough to buy a new unit. I was hoping someone out there had a fix for this and I am still waiting. I also have a problem with my auto antenna retracting, it stop retracting about 6 months ago. I need to either turn off the radio a few minutes before I turn the engine off or get out of the car to push this down. This has run down my battery a few times because the motor keeps working for a while after I turn the car off. I will keep posting issues I have when the arise.

First, the LED readout on the radio started fading out, then it finally disappeared altogether never to be seen again. Took the car to the dealer and after charging me for looking they said that it was the radio itself, not an electrical problem and they would replace the radio if I wanted them to but it would take time to order and would be expensive to do. Did not want to spend the money and frankly did not trust them. Since the radio / cd itself was still working just left it as is. Then about 9 months ago the radio was only working intermittently until finally I had no AM reception and only one station on FM. Just had a new radio installed today (not at the dealer) and still no radio reception. Installers of new radio said that it is the antenna and I would have to go to the dealer for the problem. So now I have an appointment with the dealer and I am sure that they will end up charging me more than a new radio cost and still won't be able to fix the problem. I have read on the internet about many other people having problems with the radio / cd in their Explorers. Why doesn't Ford do something about it?
