Car would start but it would stop as soon as I put it in drive. Had it towed by AAA to dealer WALNUT CREEK FORD California. They said they would have to replace the idle control valve the cost $475.00 ouchhhh.Had no choice but to get it fixed.

I had shut off the explorer to go into the convenience store and it wouldn't start again. It would attempt to start but immediatly stall out with very low RPM. All of the gauges were normal, popped the hood to see if something was loose, slammed the hood out of frustration and it started perfectly. 5mins later i was almost to my house and it stalled on me, no warning, no nothing just quit. one of my neighbors stopped to see what was wrong and said that he had a problem with the sensor at the bottom of the distributor. I see that a lot of people have had this problem and would really appreciate any help i can get!

So I bought a 99 explorer and I have owned it for about 3.5 years now didn't have any major problems until about 6 months ago. One of them was I'd go out and start my car and then the RPM's would go real low and then it would just stall out. So I waited a few weeks and it just got worse. I took it to the shop and they took it for a test drive and they didn't hear it. They said I needed to get the AC recharhed so I did that. Paid for it and started up my car right in front of them and it did it again, turned it off started it again did it again. They took it in and they cleaned out the throttle something or other. They said it was getting stuck and they didn't even charge me for it. I haven't had a problem since with it. It only took them about 45 min so it wouldn't have been that much to fix.

Explorer XLT V6 4.0L Sohc

....the Explorer is a tough truck...SUV...first set of problems since reaching 100k miles...engine would start up just fine, but when RPM's dropped below 1000-500 it would sputter and then die out. My first idea was spark plugs and wires. After replacing, the engine ran fine for about two months. Once again the engine started and then died in the same way as before. Performed engine diagnostics @ Firestone. Reported I need to replace the Idle Air Control Valve and perform a Fuel System Cleaner Service in order to clean out the Throttle Body where the problem persists and will not idle. I can work on my own vehicle but this was over my head.....I was gonna change the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) but that wasn't the root of the problem. Completely satisfied with the overall price $400 because it could have been worse.

My 1999 Ford Explorer at times was stalling on my, but I would just rev the engine and in time it would go away. Recently however, even revving up the engine did not make the problem go away. The rpms hover at around 500 rpms and then the engine simply dies. Does anyone know what the problem is from past experience with this problem.

Explorer Sport 4.0L V6

So my girlfriend bought a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport a couple months ago, she bought it off of a private owner and it had been sitting for a while. When she took it home it was running fine, there were only like 2 stops the whole way home. The next day we headed into town and we got to a light and the RPMs would drop straight to 500-600RPMS, it would sit the for a sec and then it would just shut down without any warning, or lights. Put it into Neutral and tried to start it back up and it was as if it didnt want to start but eventually did. So we took it to the shop and they said it was the throttle sensor, replaced that... still did it...tested the fuel pump, pumps ok though a pressure sensor was staying at 70PSI when it should have never been over 35PSI, thats replaced... so the mechanic says its fixed, we go to pick it up and we start it up at the shop and it dies again. So he says its the ignition coil pack....thats replaced. Mechanic has it run for 2 HOURS, then drives it all over town and it never dies...so its fixed...NOT!!! He backs it out of the shop and it dies on him. Now we have no idea what it could be, but the Mechanic said to come down and pick it up cause he can't think of what else it may be and that hes done with it. What in the world is wrong with my girlfriends Explorer???

Explorer XLT 3.2L V6

I bought my Ford Explorer XLT in Aug 06. I had no problems until Sept. 06 when I went to start the truck. It wanted to turn over and when it finally did, it stalled. I called the place where I bought it from, they took it ran tests and diagnosed it with a sensor problem. He changed it, I took it home and it happened again within 2 months. Well my 30 day warranty expired and I got stuck paying $100.00 ded. for the same stupid part! Truck ran great till July when the battery went. Fixed that problem, went to start it and low and behold, wouldn't stay running again. This time I knew what the problem was and got the "NEW" part myself, but when we looked at it it was all plastic inside and our old one was a manufactured one. (it had metal in it) I was told that you can only find them in an original explorer that has never had this part changed! I was pissed that the place I bought this truck from made me pay $100 for a used part from another explorer that he had gotten in from an auction. The part I bought only cost me $25.00. I am glad that I knew from the other times what the problem was instead of paying hundreds of $$ to find the problem with diagnostics.

Whend I start the engine it run very low RPMs and then stalls. I have to press the gas pedal and get rpms up for a wile until it get normal if anybody has the solution please contact me.
