We are a ford family! Every vehicle we own is a ford. However if I can get rid of this piece of junk I will never buy another ford. I am so disappointed with the quality of ford vehicles in the past 10 years. The transmission is slipping the electrical gadgets are starting to fail. The same thing is happening to my Excursion too!

My issue is when ever I put my car on reverse it takes about 5 to m 7 seconds to shift into reverse then it pulls slightly.

Wow okay...so i bought this 99 ford explorer from a really shady dealership Roselle motors and had the vehicle checked out at my own dealership; everything was fine. Then two months later the transmission started jerking hard from P to D and from 1st to 2nd so i took it in. They said that i needed a transmission flush and differential. Fine, 300 bucks later, still had the problem, took it back in, told me the transmission lines were leaking in multiple spots. Patched it with JB Weld and it was fine for a while, but then more leaking on the driveway. Turned out the entire transmission was leaking. Got rid of this POS and got a Hyundai.
If your loyal to Ford then you need mental help or maybe a basic education. Never again. Do NOT buy this vehicle RUN AWAY!!! just look at 5 of the top 20 worst vehicles on this site = Ford explorer, and this one was no exception. Ford can't make a decent SUV if their lives depended on it.

I have had this car for almost 4 months and right before it shifts into third gear (auto) it slips pretty bad. I dont really care about it that much but this car has to get me through college and at this rate i dont think its going to. Come on

In Dec 2006, the transmission started slipping so we paid AAMCO $2600 to fix it. Then in only 18 months, it's doing it again and now doesn't go in reverse. AAMCO is out of warranty (12 months) so we're out of luck there. Come to find out, it appears that the electrical system is causing the problem (after I talked to a professional mechanic) and AAMCO also reported the same issue. Transmissions used to be controlled mechanically so that fluids would be pushed into the system as needed. Now it's done through electronics which fail big time because in FORD they have designed systems that compete with each other and if the transmission system electronics looses the competition, then your transmission just grinds away without fluids. If I such a fool as to repair this again, then the transmission will break gain because the electrical system is a design flaw.
I'm am so screwed. Any suggestions?

Ford knows that there is a problem with the O/D and the Transmissions of there Explorers and they need to have a recall and pay to fix these problems for all of the thousands of customers that are affected by this. FORD you could cause someone to be killed...Is that what it is going to take for your company to fix this problem....I'm not able to afford to repair my car, as are many people here. WE have to drive our kids to school and to work in these UNSAFE vehicles....Please do the right thing and repair our cars.....

I noticed my tranny lightly slipping once every blue moon, not everyday but every other day maybe. So the guy at the tranny shop said it's possible it cud just need a filter, and to try it b4 putting money into it. So bought everything needed to change filter, got under car and noticed that there are two catalytic converters. One of which is directly underneath the tranny pan, and is extremely hard to remove.
Tranny shop wants to charge me $200 just for the Labor of removing pan and catalytic converter that's blocking pan. Said they only made these types for about a yr. I already spent the money for filter, fluid, ect. Just want to know are there any videos or anything that may be able to assist me in removing this converter blocking access to my tranny pan? Thank you.
