Fill the tank, gauge and electronic readout show nearly empty. Stays that way unless you do a panic stop that appears to bounce the sensor into activity.

This is a repetitive intermittent problem. When you fill the gas tank, the analog gauge and the electronic readout both show the fuel level near empty and continue to show that way, even though the tank was filled. We have found that we can get the gauge to start reading if we do a panic stop - it seems to bounce the sensor into action.
We asked the dealer to troubleshoot this and they essentially refused - saiid they really didn't want to do it. It's a real pain, and now I'm reading that this is a common problem with Explorers and, possibly, with Ford in general.

Fill tank, gauge stays near empty. Can get it to read again by doing a panic stop to bounce the sensor into activity.
This has happened a bunch of times. I've reported it three times, but it takes too long to put in a report so I'm not going to do more of them.
