Explorer 6-cyl

Vehicle started running very rough in drive but ok in park and smell of fuel or exhaust was in cabin. Took vehicle to dealership immediately. Dealership said valve was burned out and this only happens if vehicle has overheated. This vehicle has never overheated and even acknowledged a full and clean coolant level present. Dealership wants $1,800 to fix engine which only has 68,000 miles on it.

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle used with 16000 miles, I began to notice a vibration and rattling sound while at idle. It appears to happen more often when the A/C compressor is running, causing the idle RPM's to be even lower. At this low idle speed of around 500-600 RPM, the vibration and rattling occurs and only stops if the RPM's are increased. And while driving recently with 32600 miles on the vehicle, the RPM's seemed to be abnormally high, resulting in increased braking effort to slow the vehicle, and at startup of the engine, initial idle speeds of up to 2500 RPM. Engine temperture was also noted to be above the typical operating temperature and could only be lowered by setting the heater & fan on high to remove heat from the coolant. Nlm

This exlorer/eddie bauer was leased brand new. I have had nothing but problems beginning with the first week of having it (ie. Stalling, shutting off, engine failure, excessive wind noise, window/radio replacement, inaccurate fuel readings etc..). I have been bounced back and forth between the service and sales dept. Of the dealship. Their favorite answer to a problem is, "we are unable to duplicate consumer concern." Hello!!!!, this is why you get paid the big bucks! I am not an engineer or savy with vehicle terminology. However, I think I'm smart enough to know there is a major problem here. I am a single parent who is concerned for myself and child's safety. This has been a nightmare for me and I am reaching out to whomever will listen to my concerns.

Front end shakes and the vehicle floats. Vehicle wanders in between lanes. Dealer replaced front shocks, but the loose feeling is still there. The vehicle was vibrating due to bent rim. The brake failed at 6000 miles. There was engine noise and the cause was not known. The tires were on recall and were replaced by Firestone. The shcock absorbers also failed.

There is a knock in the engine upon accelerating. The car has been to plantation Ford twice and each time I am told that this knocking noise is a "characteristic of the engine". per Ford engineers this engine is no longer used in current production therefore, they can compare my engine to another engine with low mileage. The mechanics at plantation Ford do agree there is a noise in the engine but no one seems to want to fix it. No I have not had any failures or accidents yet. However, common sense tells one that a knock in an engine is not good. Please help me.

We leased a 2000 Ford Explorer on 9-15-00 on 9-16-00 it shut off going down a hill no power steering or power brakes contacted the dealership they thought it was a fluke and wouldn't happen again. It has since happened 4 more times all going down hills. It has been in the shop 5 times but only worked on 2 of the 5 times because Ford Motor Co. Doesn't know what to fix. They also said it had to shut off on a mechanic to do anything. Overall the had our vehicle 23 days, it didn't shut off. They installed a flight indicator on our vehicle and returned it to us and told us to push the button within 5 seconds when it shuts off. You can only do this with 2 people in the car. It shut off Feb.2,01 I pushed the button because my husband was driving and called the dealership, they picked up the vehicle and returned it 3 hours later and said we got a good reading they should be able to fix the problem. Ford Motor Co. Asked for the reading and said it wasn't a good reading don't do anything. So we still have a vehicle that everyone know shut off 5 times, we can not do the lemon law because it has only been worked on 2 out 5 times andwe had a rental 23 days and we need 30 days.we have a family that drives in this car, we live on a hill and out business is on abigger hill.I am scared to death to drive this vehicle.we have talked to Ford hotline and got a run around with them and we have email Ford andgot a ran around from them. The dealership will take our vehicle back but we need to put the difference in our new payment of what is owed.all together it is $8500 I don't feel this is fair considering this is not my problem it is Ford.no one wants to help us and the dealership told us to save our money Ford has way more attorneys than we can afford to fight them. I hope we can get somewhere with your company. Thank you.
