Is Ford retarded or what?? Any sane person knows that a piece of plastic when under continual stress of working the visors up and down, that the plastic piece will crack and crumble apart! Morons! Actually, the first one broke before the warranty was out, barely. Real smart, making us have to replace the whole visor.

The second time it broke was a few years later. I wasn't buying a whole new visor again and saw some crazy U shaped metal pieces that someone devised to fix the problem. The metal pieces fit around the arm of the visor, It screws on then the plastic cover snaps over them. My husband manufactured a couple ad we fixed it, not a perfect solution, (the visor wobbles when in the down position) but.......works ok. Now the second visor snapped out the other day.

Someone is making a mint on an updated fix available on Amazon for $17. $30 at the auto parts store. Thankfully, it is NOT Ford profiting from this fix and of course they say there is no problem with the design, that I must be hanging on the visor. What, now they are calling me a monkey? I can assure that I take care of my vehicles. They make things cheapo, so consumers are keeping them rich, having to constantly repair their products.

The plastic holding the metal bar snapped and flew off into my face while on the Interstate. Startled and not knowing what was going on, I pulled over to the side of the road, decelerating from 70 mph. I was able to see the brittle broken pieces on the floor and seat and my lap, as well as the hanging visor on the driver's side. Since then the visor hangs by the wires, so we stuff the opening with duct tape and keep a pencil in the console in case the Texas heat causes the duct tape to soften and lose hold of the exposed metal bar of the visor. What a piece of junk!

As of last week, now, BOTH of my freaking visors, the little plastic ring things have shattered, fell out and my visors are now laying in the back seat of my 2005 Ford Explorer...I am beyond mad..went to Rockwall Ford, Rockwall, Texas, for $300 I could get two new visors, not order just the plastic piece, I HAVE to have the entire visor. Same with Randal Reed's Prestige Ford in Garland, Texas, need two new visors, not a recall item. It is crazy, I have NEVER had a sun visor break and living in Texas w/the sun in the summer time, you HAVE to have a sunvisor. If anyone can direct me as to where I can buy the plastic piece to repair this, I'd like to know as I see none on line when trying Google...

Cheaply made, unable to fix without spending almost 200.00 for the same cheap part. I think I'll try the Expedition fix.

To add more on this issue...I have had my Explorer since May of 05 and within a year, my passenger visor started hanging, and I had it replaced (just the plastic piece was replaced because the actual visor was still the old one) under warranty and let them know the driver side was hanging as well-but because it wasn't "that bad" they could not fix it.

Within the next year the driver side visor fell off, of course after the warranty was expired. I had to go without the visor for about a year - I had to go to the dealership and pay $135 and was gonna be charged another $65 to get it put on! I was so pissed by this point and told them JUST &^%& DO IT! I get in my truck and it's the wrong visor!!! But guess what a year and a half later it's still on! But my passenger visor fell off again!

I refuse to go back to them to fork up more money on this thing. I would rather go to the junkyard and take it off a Expedition-which is the one they replaced my old driver side visor with. Just pop off the cover and unscrew the broken pieces and get the Expedition visor!

I have disassembled the sun visor, I had to cut the electric cables that feed the visor`s dash light, as there were no connector (if you check shop manual, there should be a connector). The plastic hinge support was completely cracked around the sliding area with visor metallic arm (the metallic arm is covered by plastic). I wanted to check if possible to buy the original hinge or try to make a new one in metal more resistant.

My surprise was that the hinge base was made of poor resistance plastic and terrible design, this is incredible taking into account that the visor arm is metallic and it transfers a considerable force to this plastic base each time you fold or use the sun visor.

After a very deep research in dealers and in the web, I found that such "plastic fantastic hinge base" was not possible to buy, you need to buy the complete "Visor Sun - Asy", part # 3L2Z-7804105-EAA (pilot side) and 104-EAA (co-pilot side).

If you plan to manufacture the hinge base across the corner, you will find it very hard, unless you give it to a good steel machining shop, this component is very complex to manufacture and even if you are good in AUTOCAD, you will expend some time trying to draw an equivalent part that could do the same job.

probably I will end up buying both visors and expend maybe 200 USD, if I install them by myself.

I have read several other complaints like this. The plastic hinges that hold the visors cracks then eventually falls apart and the visor dangles down. These are cheap plastic parts. Ford dealership wants to charge $200 to fix this. Ridiculous!! These parts shouldn't cost more than $20 each and can be easily fixed by yourself.

Bracket that holds the swivel end of the visor cracked and now I have the visor elbow wedged in the broken remainder of the mount. If I hit a bump the visor will drop down in my view. Not sure what the fix is for sure but a mechanic told me I would have to replace the entire visor assembly and not just the broken bracket. Another way Ford milks money from people if the entire assembly option is true.

I found it very annoying as well, that both plastic holders for both sun visors broke within a day of each other and my car is garaged and I have no cd holder or anything hanging from the visors. This is something I definitely felt should have been taken care of by Ford. My warranty just expired 2 mths before this happened and it costs me 205.00 to replace a tiny piece of plastic that is very cheaply made.
