Explorer V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 14,000 miles

Today at my daughter's elementary school I went to back out my 2005 Ford Explorer 14,000 miles when I noticed the dome light on. I put the car in park and hopped out of the car to check the doors, when the car slipped out of park and started backing out of the parking lot with my three children inside! The car was headed straight for 2 parked cars with mothers standing there watching in horror as I chased down the car and jumped inside to push on the brakes! Luckily, I stopped the car in time, but I am furious! What if a child leaving the elementary school was behind the car or I had been earlier and backing out when all the parents are leaving at once and ran into them. My poor children were in the car!!! I wanted to kill the car as if it were a real human being threatening my children's lives. My friend had to talk me down from kicking it. I am taking it into Ford tommorrow morning and don't want it supposedly fixed; I want it fixed right! I can not allow someone to DIE before it is fixed. What if my child was waiting to get into the car and it ran them over! What is wrong with my car? I am not a girl that knows absolutely nothing about cars either... I know I have put my car in park before and it has lurched forward slightly until the gear shift slips into park; it has never slipped the other way to reverse. This is beyond unacceptable; I did not have children and others did not have children for my freaking Ford to kill them! I am in tears thinking of how horrible this could have been. Can it be worse? Oh it can; the door was closing and the doors automatically lock. If I hadn't caught the door, my babies would be trapped inside of this out of control beast. It would have traveled onto a road and if not hit by cars, it would slam into a brick wall. I know I would have been run over trying to stop it but WHY SHOULD I BE PUT IN THAT SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE?

I HAD TO BE RUN OVER A SECOND TIME TO GET IT OFF ME. AFTER READING MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME MECHANICAL PROBLEMS I FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT. THERE WERE MANY PEOPLE AROUND THAT COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED WE WERE AT A GARAGE WITH MANY ADULTS AND CHILDREN.
