I returned my Explorer to Ford today for the same jolting and jerking issue I had fixed (yeah right) 2 months ago. My neck is extremely sore now and I am considering seeing my doctor about it (then my attorney). After being majorly inconvenienced again for the same problem - Ford initially told me that this was a driver issue (MY FAULT!!). I told them that I would contact my attorney about this matter if that becomes their final decision. There final decision became "normal operation" today. What a crock of $h!t. Anyone for a class action lawsuit??????????

Okay listen up 2006 ford explorer V8 owners. I had all of the same complaints as you and all of the same bullshit with reprogramming. I had finally had enough so I went to the dealership and threatened to go to my local news with the complaints. Guess what? They found the problem after 3 weeks. It was the injector in cylinder 8. The problem is now fixed and I am getting about 18-19 miles per gallon and no more jolts or hard shifting. Have it checked out!

I have now taken my 2006 Ford Explorer Limited in three times due to lunging while stopping and hard transmission shifts in the lower gear (up and down shifting). I have also heard the whooping noise coming from the back of the car which is apparently the transmission pump. The dealer has reprogrammed my transmission twice and both times that I have returned to the dealership with the same problem they said that it looks as though my computer had never been reprogrammed and so all that Ford would allow them to do was reprogram it again.... I have had a rental car for 30 days so far and I am going to pick up the truck today after the third attempt at fixing the same problem. They claimed that they worked with the manufacturer and did some additional programming work this time and that it is driving great. We will see.... If this doesn't do it then I will be pursuing the Lemon Law. Has anyone had recent success?

I have also had water leaks coming in my dome light and in through the clips of the driver's side sun visor that they have attempted to fix twice without success. They took a different approach this time and said that something had been clogging my drainage tubes but I am very worried about the long term effects this water infiltration could have had...

HELLO, I AM A TRANSMISSION TECHNICIAN. I HAD BEEN INTO THE FORD DEALER UNDER WARRANTY, FOR THE SAME 2-1 DOWNSHIFT BUMP/JOLT AND ERRATIC UPSHIFT CONCERNS THAT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT 2 TIMES IN 2007. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANS COMPUTER (WHICH IS PART OF THE VALVE BODY "MECHATRONIC UNIT" INSIDE THE TRANS PAN) AND THE TECH EXPLAINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS AN "INITIAL LEARNING" CYCLE THAT MUST BE PERFORMED EXACT TO THE BULLETIN... IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE DRIVE CYCLE IS NOT BEING PERFORMED CORRECTLY. HOWEVER, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES, THE PROBLEM RETURNED. IN LATE SEPTEMBER 2007, DEALERS WERE ADVISED TO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIRS AS ENGINEERING WAS WORKING A "FIX" TO THE SOFTWARE. THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE BUILT BY THE SAME COMPANY THAT HAS BEEN MAKING BMW AND MERCEDES AND LAND ROVER TRANS FOR YEARS "ZF" IS THE COMPANY, WHICH IS NOW OWNED BY FORD... I GUESS THAT SORT OF MAKES IT LOOK LIKE FORD REALLY IS CONCERNED WITH THEIR TRANS QUALITY AND WANT TO GET A NEW IMPRESSION. FORD SHOULD HAVE WORKED THE SOFTWARE BEFORE THEY SOLD THESE TRUCKS, BUT THAT IS THE REAL STORY. AFTER MID NOVEMBER 2007, A LATEST, GREATEST CALIBRATION UPDATE BECAME AVAILABLE, AND IT WAS PERFORMED... THE TRANSMISSION WORKS GREAT!!! I WOULD SUGGEST AT "HIGHER" MILEAGE WHICH MEANS DIFFERENT THINGS TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE, IF A DEALER REPROGRAMMED YOUR TRUCK "BEFORE" DECEMBER OF 2008, THEY SHOULD CHECK IT AGAIN FOR AN UPDATE, AND THE DRIVE CYCLE IS CRITICAL TO BE PERFORMED, THEN IT TAKES ABOUT A WEEK TO "FULLY ADAPT". IF A PROBLEM CONTINUES, THEN MAYBE SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG, AND THEY SHOULD INSPECT OR REPLACE THE "MECHATRONIC" VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO IN THE EXPEDITIONS IN 2007 AND 2008 AND SOME OF THE 2007 EXPLORERS WHICH ALSO HAVE BULLETINS. THE TRANSMISSION IN THE EXPLORER IS CALLED 6R60 AND THE EXPEDITION IS THE 6R75. SO FAR THE TRUCK I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IS GREAT. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE....

Explorer Limited V8

The car bucks, lunges and kicks when coming to a stop. Took it to the dealer and they reprogrammed the transmission, saying it is all set. With in a day it was doing it again and now it is getting worse!!! Took it back to the dealer and they say that "It is normal, it won't hurt the transmission"!

I paid 40k for this car to have it drive worse than a Hyundai! The car is now out of warranty and they won't look at it without a consultation fee, even though the first time it was logged it was under warranty.

Never buy a Ford again. Anyone know if Ford is doing anything to keep their customers?

I had noticed that my Explorer was lunging and jolting at stop signs. My dealer, to their credit, recognized my explanation and did the transmission reprogramming today. Now...it happened that when I went into the dealership...my SUV was averaging 13.5 miles per gallon...(terrible)... but after the reprogramming ...as I left the dealership...I noticed that the gage said 10.6 miles per gallon. Then it went even further down!! to 9.3 !! NOT GOOD!

I got out on the bypass and managed to get it up to 11.5 again... but has anyone else noticed a drop in gas mileage after having the transmission re-programmed? The Explorer seems to be less jolting ...but need more time to be sure.

Transmission controller has been reprogrammed numerous times only to have problem reappear after 3-4,000 miles. Valve body replaced approx 1 year ago, but did not fix. Ford admits problem and asks that I keep in touch with the dealer for solution, which they do not yet have. Car is nearly 30 months old . . . 46,000 miles, and I doubt it will ever be fixed. I intend to keep after Ford on this, and it looks like it is a fairly common problem with the 6-speed transmission. . . . friend with a Mercury Mountaineer with same transmission has same problem. Definitely a design issue. Anyone have any idea how to elevate these complaints?

Explorer Eddie Bauer V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,000 miles

My 06 Explorer has been doing all the things that everyone has listed, lurching forward when shifting between 1st and 2nd or when downshifting between 2nd and 1st. It started in Feb 07 but it was very seldom and not a hard jerk, so I didn't think anything of it. As the months passed by and the miles tacked it began to jolt worse and worse. More frequent, harder...so I took it to a dealership in Miami Florida back in November 2007 and they checked it out for brakes. I knew it wasn't a brake problem, but they checked the brakes and hooked it to their machine. I was told nothing came up on the computer and that it was fine. They changed out the brake pads...etc. No fix. It lurched when I pulled out of the parking lot! So I had to get back to work and didn't bother going back to that dealer b/c I thought they were incompetent! We just pcs'd to Alaska and I have an appt with the dealership on Monday morning. I have printed all 66 complaints and will be bringing them with me. I want my truck fixed, and not a temporary fix. Its a brand new truck still....it shouldn't be doing this until like 100,000 miles! WTF? Unfortunately I am going to have to make several trips to the dealership here in attempt to get it fixed before I can pursue a Lemon Law Case. With as many complaints as there has been with the vehicles, they really should be doing a recall on ALL the 06 explorers! I just found this website, and I am convinces that there are probably hundreds or even thousands of 06 explorer owners out there who are having the same problems. We need to spread the word and get these complaints properly accounted for. This was the first brand new car I have EVER owned and I bought one because I was tired of getting lemons and tired of all the maintenance work that goes with buying used cars! What a waste! I don't think I'll ever buy a FORD again after seeing all these complaints. I have heard that Ford cars/trucks/suvs...etc are known for having really bad transmission problems. Well they need to do a redesign or something so we all don't throw $40,000+ down the drain. We think we are getting a quality vehicle b/c it runs AWESOME for the first few months....and then you realize you have been lemoned!!!! This is unacceptable. No wonder Ford is going under........

I will keep checking back to see how this is progressing.

I took my SUV to the Ford Dealership last month and described the problem. The service rep said he couldn't make a diagnosis from my description of kicking as it slowed down or lunging when I came to a stop. He said that a technician drove it and didn't feel anything. (It happens every now and then but occurring more frequently.) They told me to come back when it lunges again! So, I take it in again and the service manager greets me. As soon as I tell him the problem, he instantly knows what I am talking about. I also hear a strange whooping or noise and/or a stomach growling sound from the back end as if air was being released.

We've had this problem for past 20 months and it has become increasingly worse. We bvrin have requested the problem be repaired when serviced and have been put off. I found this

site tonight. My lease expires in 3 months and how the heck can I buy this and who would repurchase it from me after a test drive. I hope I can print all these complaints out and take

them to my dealer. I haven't read all the complaints yet but just glancing it appears that this sure is a design flaw and not a random incident concerning my car. Any ideas of how

to approach the dealer will be appreciated.

Explorer has constantly exhibited poor low speed shifting. Shifting has been hard and abrupt at low speeds either when accelerating or decelerating. Have had the car in three times to reprogram transmission. Now the trans is experiencing revving before shifting at low speeds. Gas mileage also appears to have dropped a little. Has anyone tried a lemon law case on this issue?

Thank goodness for Google and AutoBeef!! I took my Explorer into the dealer yesterday as my right rear blinker wasn't working and had been annoyed w/ this "lurching" since I purchased this vehicle 6 months ago. I asked them to look at the brakes as I though this was the problem... They called and asked me to pick up the Explorer and they could not "duplicate the problem with the brakes." Before going to the dealer, I entered "2006 Explorer lurches" as a Google search. After finding this website, I printed off the other 62 complaints and took it to my dealer. They did some checking and re-programmed the PCM and TCM. This took about 30 minutes and they told me that should fix the problem. I have driven it only about 10 miles, but believe that it did the trick.

I just bought this truck, drove it home and it was fine. I didn't have a clue that there was a transmission problem. A few days after buying it, I came to a stop in Mulvane, Kansas and the piece jolted hard back into first. I honestly thought I had gotten rear ended hard. Well, I had the new TSB reprogram performed on my 2006 Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 1000 miles ago and the jolt is back! The transmission shifted smooth with no jolts for about 200 miles but all hell broke lose again after that. I figured I would drive it a little more to give the reprogram time to work itself in but it did not get any better. I have to admit, the jolts are not as often as before but they are just as extreme. I would say 1 out of every 5 stops causes the jolt to occur. Every so often it is pretty violent and scares the hell out of you! The truck is back in the shop today to have it reprogrammed again. Lets hope it likes the program this time and I am done with this headache! I want to enjoy my $40k Explorer again! What do we do if there is no fix for this issue? Does anyone have any more feedback on successful reprograms? Thank you.

I am glad I heard about this website.

A problem occurred just recently on January 29, 2008 at my sister's apartment and the parking spaces there are slanted on an angle. While in the Reverse position I was easing out nice and slow and all of a sudden while in Reverse the truck rolled down the embankment into the trees.

I was accused of either going at a high rate of speed or covering for someone.

I am thankful that this website exists.

Well I see that a lot of you have had this complaint and I just want to let you in on my issues...had the service bulletin performed and it does not jolt as bad but I have noticed that the truck know has less power and hesitates and it does this really bad in the mornings. They replaced the flywheel which was also was making noise. When starting up, it still makes noise.

I've had it with this 40,000 piece of sh*t - tried to trade it in and guys don't even try. You might owe

30,000 for a truck with all the toys you get 16,000 in trade in. At this time we are trying to lemon law this piece of junk. Ford offered us extended warranty and 1 free month of car payments. What a joke, this truck is junk. Will keep you informed.
