Explorer XLT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 159,000 miles

A 2008 SUV should not be having transmission issues!!!!!!!! We got our Explorer used and was working just fine until last week. The transmission is now failing and after speaking to a well own Ford mechanic, he says that this issue is very common on most newer Explorer with the sealed new style sealed transmission. He also said there a value inside that causes the transmission to slip and once it goes bad, the transmission is done for!!!! He said he's performed this work on many Explorers with the sealed transmission and almost every customer has to have their transmission rebuilt.

I don't understand why this issue hasn't been noted as a recall item since many owners are having the same issue!!!!!!!!!! We are looking to just get rid. The repairs are too costly and may end up need replacing again.....

Explorer LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 99,000 miles

I took care of my Ford and had trans. fluid changed and about 1 k miles later it started slipping.

I traded 1 Ford for a newer one, 2005 to 2008, and the same thing happened, now I am in a money bind.

Thank you Ford, I now drive a GMC.
