I had Ford diagnosis the noise problem and they found water in the rear axle. I have never had this vehicle in water. The rear axle oil was milky white from water. Ford said it is not covered under the 5 year warranty. They do not know how the water leaked in. The dealer said they have only seen one other explorer like this. $3000,00 to repair it. If anyone has any ideas as to how water can get into a sealed rear axle I would like to hear your thoughts. My next vehicle will be a Durango.

Never had a problem with this vehicle since the time we purchased it two years ago; 2014.
Suddenly we experienced a loud noise upon acceleration; immediately brought to Ford dealership and the problem was diagnosed as "right, rear wheel bearing." The Ford dealership replaced the bearing, I drove the car off the lot and on the ride home I thought the rear end was going to fall off or something drastic was going to happen.
I made it home safely but realized I could have caused an accident or been in an accident; it was a harsh reality. I immediately called the Ford dealership and told them to pick up the vehicle because I was not going to endanger my life or others by driving an unsafe vehicle.
The Ford is still at the shop; it is still unclear what the problem is and they have disassembled the entire rear end. I was told this morning that two parts were ordered and arrived this morning; Ford did not state what those parts are. Ford quoted a price to me of $1500. As you can imagine, I am not happy about this.
