A/C compressor clutch came apart tearing apart the belt

Car has less than 40,000 mile on it. Never noticed any signs that the clutch was going, no belt squeal clunking when air turning on etc. Just was driving, heard noise as belt came apart and "check charging system" indicator came on. Of course Ford only covers it for 3 years or 36,000
