First started as bubbling paint along the lip of the hood. Paint eventually started peeling away. When trying to contact Ford they referred me to a dealer in investigate. Dealer took pictures and sent to Ford. Dealer stated the paint looked awful and he hoped his newly purchased explorer didn't run into same issue. Said he was pretty sure they would cover. After a few days I was notified Ford rejected our claim of fixing the issue, stating only holes in body we're covered. Can't believe a company won't stand behind their product. When looking at hood appears to be a design flaw. The hood metal is sandwiched together with thin metal and then painted over. When metal shifts over bumps, normal driving etc., it creates small cracks in the paint. Water, eventually gets in cracks and cause reaction with metal and paint to blister. Sorry Ford. We will never own another Ford vehicle or have anything positive to say about your vehicles.
Update from Jul 8, 2018: Peeling paint on hood lip. Tried to call Ford was directed to dealer. Dealer agreed paint peeing was awful. Ford however denied warranty claim. Absolutely unreal a 5 year old vehicle looks like this and Ford is able to get away with it.

I complained to the dealership and they had me go to the manufacturer. They would not do anything. I wish I had noticed the paint issue before 36,000 miles while it was under warranty but I didn't even think about looking for paint issues. It wasn't until a big chunk fell off that my black SUV had an obvious issue. A $50,000 vehicle should not have this issue! I WILL NEVER BUY FORD AGAIN! I want to trade this vehicle in this year but am afraid I won't get much for it due to its obvious defect.

We started noticing paint cracking on the hood. I honestly thought that someone had thrown something onto the hood while it was super hot or something. Recently, while standing on a balcony and looking down onto the car we noticed that the roof has multiple golf-ball sized paint holes. The bubbling paint has now extended onto the frame of the windshield and has penny to quarter sized holes that are rust colored and it's dozens, maybe even close to a hundred of them by now. IT LOOKS AWFUL!
This has been an amazing car, but it's starting to look like it's 30 years old already and it's a 2013. I hope there's a recall on this paint job because I could never get behind Ford or trust that if I buy a new great looking and great driving car from them similar to the explorer that I have, that it won't be overcome by rust within the first 7-8 years.
