My wife took our Ford Explorer to our family trusted mechanic for an oil change and she was told we had a coolant leak into the engine. She asked the estimate of the repair to find out it would be over four thousand to fix depending on how much Ford Motor Company charges for parts. She was told it was not an immediate issue to fix but it needed to get done or the potential for a massive failure would likely happen depending on how much she drives the car.

This is the second time in a year that a major repair needed to be done and by the way the extended warranty won't cover it and we were told that now that we asked/ informed them of the issue that if the motor seized up then they would not replace it either. At this point we realize Ford products our not as reliable as their reputation of older vehicles. Come to find out given a little research, this is a common issue and we can only get parts through Ford Motor Company. How is this not a monopoly given the common problem? Could they be installing parts that they are aware of breaking down at a certain point ie: only good for 20,000 miles or 3 years before they are aware the part needs to be replaced? Seems like a way to acquire revenue with parts and labor after the original sale to gain again and again. For example, car costs 20k, then KNOWN repair cost of that same car over 100k miles is 20k, making the car 40k (hopefully only 20k) and not disclosing at time of original sale seems to be a violation of our consumer rights to full disclosure before purchase.

The water pump has failed and coolant has leaked on the engine. The turbo wasn't getting enough coolant and has blown causing parts to go into the inter-cooler and catalytic converter. $11k to repair everything and my extended warranty does not cover it because the water pump caused all of the other damages.
