'takata recal' when my car has been sitting in the driveway for a full day without being driven or started. The following day you go to start the car. It starts no problem, once your in reverse the battery light will come on and as soon as you put it in drive I lose all power and function to steer. If I hit the gas petal it will regain power. The light will disappear only if I hit ok. This happens every time without fail. I also smell carbon dioxide or gas fumes from time to time

Traveling on highway at 60 mph vehicle suddenly decelerated to 5 mph within 3 seconds. Engine began running rough and stopped. Pulled to shoulder of road. Months before this incident warning light on instrument cluster would intermittently state transmission not in park when parking vehicle. Service technicians could not reproduce error. Vehicle taken in for service on 9/21/2018. Report on vehicle on 9/28/2018 stated that power transfer unit damaged beyond repair, steering column switch needed repair which meant steering unit needed replacing and interlock switch on shifter needed replacing. Total cost $5150. Traded vehicle in and purchased different vehicle. Vehicle not purchased from dealership which analyzed repair work.

While driving in the car with my two children on route 193 in Maryland (not a highway but a busy road), the car suddenly stopped accelerating, an error appeared on the screen that said "terrain management system error", a wrench indicator light came on and the light on the tms knob went out (car had full tank of gas). I pulled over on the side of the road, turned the car off, restarted it and the error indicators were gone. It then drove with no problems. We took it to the dealer the following day for an oil change and asked them to look into the problem. After charging us $175 for a diagnostic, they told us that they couldn't replicate the problem and no codes were stored in the computer so there was nothing they could do. We picked up the car and brought it home. Sunday morning, once again it abruptly stopped accelerating, and the same error messages appeared. The terrain management system error only appeared for a couple of seconds and was then replaced with a wrench error on the screen. This time I took pictures in the hopes that it might help the dealer pinpoint the problem. I then cut the car off and restarted again. It drove with no problems again but we took it back to the car at the dealer on Tuesday because clearly there is a problem. I showed the pictures and was told, in order for anything to be fixed, they have to be able to replicate the problem and because when I restart the car the error codes are deleted from the history, there's nothing for the dealer to do. I received a call today (2/14/18) and again was told that the problem couldn't be replicated so no fix is authorized. I understand wanting to diagnose the correct problem, however this is a serious safety issue. Both times this has happened I have been with my kids and thankfully in places where I could safely pull over but what if it happens while I am on a highway or in an intersection?

Moonroof leak followed by monroof being stuck open. After a car wash at our purchasing dealer, we noticed water dripping from the lights above the center console in proximity to the monroof switches. Upon testing the switches, the moonroof opened but would not close again. The powershade operates fine, but the moonroof is stuck open (in the middle of winter in Michigan). The lights operate fine. Luckily for us, we are under the initial factory warranty. This is a 2015 Explorer with 29900 miles. We bought it used on Saturday and this happened Saturday afternoon on the way home from the Ford dealer.

My 2015 Ford Explorer limited started having problems 2 days after pulling out of the dealer. They have not stopped. Unfortunately, I waited too long for a lemon law claim. Most important problem: The smell of exhaust in my cabin under heavy acceleration, since day 1. it has been in 10 times since August 2015. The exhaust has been taken apart multiple times 1."trans roll restrictor rubber hanging against exhaust pipe" was found. Replaced roll restrictor. Did something with tsb. 2. returned for same smell: Reprogram HVAC module, replaced left rear air extractor, applied seem sealer to areas in tsb. Replaced grille and valve assembly. 3. two months later, same thing - replaced grille and valve asy, reprogrammed HVAC module, replaced air extractor 4. one month later: Installed muffler asy; rvc code for tsb 1; replaced wheel lip molding, valve asy, dual rate air extractor still have the smell, but am always told they don't smell it. I had two people get sick and vomit in my truck because of the fumes in stop and go traffic. Additional problems: 1. rear running lights did not work - twice at dealer to get repaired 2. air bag light on constantly - wire assembly - tsb 16 was spliced 3. AWD off & ABS lights constantly on - cost me $582 for them to take everything apart and check "pin fit" at all terminals. At which point the codes went away. 4. driver-side outside door handle just broke off when I went to open the door - $149 5. when vehicle is put in park I get an error message vehicle not in park. I need a shift module, $395 plus tax and fees 6. multiple other small problems. Vents not staying open, plastic covers coming off everywhere, speaker replaced twice my Explorer has been in the shop more times than I can count and Ford does not give loaner cars. I've been without a car for days at a time.

Car smells like exhaust, the smell is like egg or something dead the key won't come out of the ignitiononce I got the key out the car electrical was still on, the key was out but everything was on and beeping (electrical problems that ongoing) was having problems with the breaks, have taken vehicle in a few times regarding this issue the driver side window won't go down and keeps shaking while going down. One in a while I still hear a tapping sound under driver seat the air conditioner in the car takes 5 to 10 minutes to get cool in the vehicle I have all service reports and can provide more information in a report I have and can send video that have been taken of these issues. Console started flashing "service steering assist soon" and "traction assist failure". would clear up when car restarted. Never lost steering during this 2 week time. July 9th, 2017, driving 70 mph on 405 freeway near long beach, ca, flashed "steering assist failure" and lost power steering. Traction assist failure light as well. Got though traffic, slowed down and exited without any power steering, stopped and restarted and issue went away. Called dealer and took car in the next morning. They reset codes and said "if it happens again bring it back in." Which scared me. 9 days later lost steering turning into work parking lot then lost steering 3 more times within 24 hours. Took to dealer and they had to replace the entire epas rack and pinion system for $1916.79. The car had 46,7K miles and only highway driving. Outside of warranty as they don't consider this powertrain. Had I been in a turn or exit ramp off freeway would have been a crash for certain.

August 10-October 20th: Numerous fault codes appeared on dash: Terrain management fault light appeared on dashboard, then the entire dashboard went black, the air conditioning stopped, the radio turned off, the terrain management control knob was no longer lit. Suddenly, very hot air started pouring out of all vents with what seemed like maximum fan speed. For 34 out of 60 day period (6 occurrences and 6 visits to dealership), Ford kept vehicle and tried to determine the cause. They were unable to retrieve any error codes or duplicate the problem. Provided details and picture from my cell phone of error messages to service dept. August 28: We were driving 6 people in the Explorer on the expressway when we started experiencing problems. Chiming noises were heard initially, then intermittently. The dashboard lights started blinking on and off. The entire dashboard then went black, then intermittently on with the speedometer going back and forth from 0 to around 78, then blacking out again. Left hand side of dashboard displayed brake system warning symbol and low tire pressure warning symbol. The air conditioning and radio went off. AWD off message appeared on left side of dashboard. Right hand side of dashboard displayed: Stability control, stability control system off & front air bag symbols. Maximum heat started pouring out of vents. ABS symbol appeared and right hand signal came on. Service advance trac message was also displayed at some point. This problem episode lasted at least 4 minutes while we were driving. We took pictures of the dashboard and videotaped part of this episode.

My tie rod and rod and navigation system which are electric broke while I was driving my vehicle. There was no forwarning of the event. I was on the highway, driving at traffic speed, fast moving cars everywhere, left, right and centre, front and back all going above speed limits, no steering control, no safety ramp visible for a few kilometres. Suddenly I found myself unable to steer my wheels, the instrument panel listed "loss of navigation systems" and in red 'loss steering control stop safely'. the car has had a single owner, never involved in any high impact collision, was driven mainly in urban areas, only 58,813 miles, purchased directly from the dealership. I had only 6 miles on the speedometer when I took ownership of the car.

We have had continual failures with our 2015 and 2016 Ford Explorer with the police package. The body control modules, wiring harnesses, restraint control modules that are either preventing new units being placed into service or fail once they have been placed into service. We currently have two of these units that we purchased off of our state contract in Washington state that are still at the dealer. We purchased and received these units in November of 2015. I have provided the VIN numbers to these two units that are effected along with the rest of the VIN numbers for all 5 units we have purchased within the last year and a half. Keeps having check engine light come on, also keeps having aibag deactivated signal come on instrument panel. Also, keeps having issues where windows won't go up or down even when pushing any of buttons. Keeps having problems with wipers not wanting to work too. (all these things are not consistently on or happening. They happen daily at any given time) 2nd row captain seat the push button won't work on folding the seat. Navigation system keeps having issues of not wanting to properly work or says no navigation card when there is one there. Also, radio has not wanted to work; the whole system ent, nav, phone, climate wouldn't work. There has been few times smell something burning coming through vents. Have tried doing the owner report with Ford like owners suppose to be able to do. Have not been able to ever get a reading, or a diagnosis. Have had it to dealership 3 times still issues. All these issues happen no matter what temperature is outside, no matter whether driving or sitting still. To try get things working right have pulled over to turn off vehicle and back on several times to try get things working properly. It isn't safe to drive in South Georgia or in Florida in down pour of rain when don't have working wipers!!! it isn't reassuring about deactivated airgbag signal on the instrument panel. Definetly aggregating considering we just purchased this 6 months ago! (we have 13 different video footage to all this for proof that we 've shown dealership, and service department; videos to big for here)
