problem #1

Explorer Platinum

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

I first encountered this during a freeway on ramp acceleration. The vehicle felt like it missed the shifts between gears. The tach would run up to about 3500 rpm and I would have to drop off the accelerator and wait for the tach to drop to about 1500 rpm before the shift would occur. Then I could accelerate again, the pattern was similar for several shifts up the gears.

Once up to speed, the ride was smooth and maintained speed. A similar issue occurred on the downshifts but I am not sure of the rpms. This occurs on surface streets as well. The dash displayed two different messages: 1) a wrench / see manual; 2) terrain management error.

The vehicle is currently being evaluated by the dealership.
